anyone holding josh gordon?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

anyone holding josh gordon?

Postby BigBawseRoss » Wed Jul 12, 2017 8:20 am

just curious as I do have him on one team and we all know what he is capable of but I'm ready to cut him for another roster spot. I unfortunately traded for him the day prior to the announcement he was going to rehab lol, so that makes me wanna hold on hope but I just wanna know what other owners thoughts are or if everyone else moved on already.

That's a crappy situation of timing with your trade, but at this point he's just taking up a roster spot. I think once you let him go, you'll probably feel better about it. And assuming it's for your team 2, you have enough depth at WR anyways. I think even if he did come back, he won't be nearly close to the player he used to be.

He's rostered in all 9 leagues I'm in, was even a deciding add-on for a trade of mine recently that helped me get AJ Green...I have no idea why, but his "allure" remains. Same reason CMike's move to Indy caused such [short lived] excitement, I suppose; people just can't quit the what-if's

I don't own him anywhere, but I'd keep holding through the remainder of the Summer. I don't remember when he can apply for reinstatement again, but I think it might be SEP/OCT. Might as well wait it out and give him one last shot at reinstatement before you drop him.

Wouldn't hesitate to drop him if there was an intriguing FA on the wire with somewhat of a clear path to fantasy prominence.

That said, I wouldn't drop him just for the sake of clearing a roster spot at this point. His chances of being reinstated and gaining fantasy relevance again are about the same as the chances of some random player a rotoworld blog is pumping up obtaining relevance. Given he's at least shown the talent I'd hold him over one taking one of those other dart throws.

Also, people forget that last year followed the same trajectory - he was denied reinstatement early in the offseason and then was conditionally reinstated at the end of July. If history repeats itself you might get a trading window here shortly....

If history repeats itself, Gordon will never step foot on a football field again (at least not in the NFL). As for having the same chances as a random player on waivers, that's also not very true because that random player is at least on a team and has a job. That alone increases their chances of being relevant.

I traded him around this time last year for a 2017 1st rounder (turned into the 12 overall so, meh)

That is your history repeating itself. Hold him if you have him and do not need the bench spot. Any 3 roto blogs and a threatened reinstatement will drive his trade value back to rookie-fever levels.

I highly doubt that happens again. I don't care if he gets reinstated, I can't imagine anyone paying a 1st for him at this point.

Could have got rid of him last year for a pretty nice deal, but couldn't do it. A week later, the rehab news came out. Ugh. So, I'm still holding him and plan to do so until he's in jail or something.

Yes because we have deep rosters. If we had 25 man rosters or so probably not. Want to see what happens closer to season time when he can reapply in September. No point in me dropping him before that. He won't ever be the dominant force he was before but I'd gladly take some solid depth out of him at this point.
