Great or Stupid?

Postby ADrunkenCaveman » Thu May 11, 2017 7:19 am

Team 1 in sig. SuperFlex!
Now let me get it out there.. It is a low $ league and I had never done a rebuild with a team before so wanted to give it a shot even if I lost out. I am now going in front of the jury (forum) for a fair ruling.

In the end all of my trades netted the following:
Gave: Watkins + Ingram + 3.03
Got: 1.03 (Fournette) + 1.08
(Fournette was my 1.01 so thats why I felt move was good. 1.01+1.08 For Watkins + Ingram + 3.03)

Gave: Abdullah + Decker + 2018 2nd
Got: Meredith + 2018 1st
(Wanted the 2018 1st so Meredith was a nice add in)

Gave: Hyde + K Allen + Reed
Got: 1.04 (mixon) + 1.09 + Lacy + Yeldon
(I think I lost this one, but got the guy I wanted and thought he would go 1.02/1.03 vs 1.04. Also, got my handcuff to Fournette)

Gave: Meredith + 1.08
Got: 1.05 (Cook)
(LOOOVVVE Cook.. vikes fan)

Gave: Big Ben + 1.09
Got: Dak
(Ben does nothing for me going into a rebuild, either was draft Mahomes or get Dak)

Gave: J Howard + JJ Nelson
Got: L Murray + Crowder + 2.12 (Trubisky) + 2018 1st
(Everyone in my league thinks I KILLED this trade, but I actually feel like if Trubisky wouldnt had still been there I woulda taken the L on this trade. Then again.. Im SUPER high on Howard)

All in all, my roster went from this:
QBs: Luck, Ben, Hoyer, Romo
RBs: Howard, Hyde, Ingram, Abdullah, etc
WRs: Watkins, Allen, Decker,
TEs: Reed, H Henry, Cook
1 x 2018 1st

Now:
QBs: Luck, Dak, Trubisky, Hoyer, Romo
RBs: Fournette, Mixon, Cook, Lacey, Yeldon
WRs: Crowder.... then nothing
TEs: Henry, Cook
3 x 2018 1sts

(I know in a rebuild you typically want to go WRs then build your rbs, but with this draft being stacked at RB I took BPA through the draft and thats who they were. Davis went 1.01 and MCAF went 1.02 for the record.)

Thoughts?

Hmmm. I understand Big Ben doing nothing for you in a rebuild, but at the same time I think you overpaid for Dak when you already had Luck as your #1 and Hoyer as your #2. Hoyer should be starting this year, so he is a decent enough #2. I think it would've been a better move to trade Big Ben for other assets, like WR help. Who is the WR Allen you have listed? Allen Robinson?

I voted good. Your Big Ben + 1.09 for Dak - I personally would've kept Ben for one more year and used the 1.09 on a receiver.

I liked most of the trades although not the Hyde trade and I'm not sure on the Howard trade. How Tribiski lasts to 2.12 in a SF is beyond me. When rebuilding in a SF, I typically build at RB last, not 1st. I would try to trade for a young WR with stud potential.

I tried moving Ben with every team before making the trade.. Even with it being a SF the best offer I got for him was the value of a late 2nd early 3rd. No body had faith in Ben and wouldnt risk only getting 1 year out of him if he retired (even the contenders).

I updated it was K Allen.

The best receiver on the board was Zay Jones. While I liked Jones, with it being a SF I thought Dak >>>> Jones

I know that getting WRs first is the plan and ideally is the way to go, but with this draft being so RB heavy and no one wanting to trade for the picks after I acquired them I figured I wouldnt reach and take the BPA. Hoping that 2 of the 3 will hit it big and will open up the possibilities of trading for studs with them.. If they come out of the gates rolling I'm sure some teams will think "Wow, he is the next Zeke" and make a lot of interest around them for trade talks! I know its a long shot, but I wasnt going to take williams over any of those RBs

Another facet that I feel isn't necessarily implied with your inquiry here is that, like the 49ers are experiencing, a rebuild isn't just one year. It is multiple years. Taking that into consideration, I still don't like it very much. It isn't awful, but I'm not sure you won after this year. But, like you, I'm of the opinion of building a solid WR corps (I will admit some level of rookie love for all the RBs you scored).

I'm not sure I would have traded Reed and your WRs for two additional 2018 1sts. Sure, most of your guys were injury prone, but they're all so young still. Watkins and Allen can both overcome their injuries. I mean, what else could Allen possibly even break? He's already done it all!

I like that you were able to recover some value with giving up Big Ben for Dakota and Mitch Biscuit, but I don't see either of those two putting up Ben numbers this year. Probably not next, either.

I agree that my team was young to start with which is why I drafted it, but my thing was my RB situation with Ingram and Hyde wasnt going to last long and I woulda ended up a middle of the pack team.. I would rather be a bottom team for a couple of years than stuck in the middle.

Overall I think you lost value on pretty much every deal, but it isn't horrible. I just am not as high on LF, Mixon or Cook to warrant their price to acquire
