New to dynasty, rebalancing an unbalanced team

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

New to dynasty, rebalancing an unbalanced team

Postby MontrealBen » Sat Oct 08, 2016 4:38 pm

My team is in the signature. This league is in its first year, and I feel good about my team talent-wise both for this year and going forward. I just cashed out early on Wentz, trading him and Smallwood for Eifert and Yeldon, and now my team is unbalanced, so I'm looking for a bit of advice.

(1) What's the bigger priority -- get a better long term answer at QB or try to land an elite RB?

(2) If the target is QB, most teams in our league are only carrying two. However, there is an owner who has Luck, Big Ben, and Ryan who seems like a prime target for trade. His TEs and WRs are quite poor, so our relative strengths match well for a trade. Any obvious trade matches jump out? The reason I'm having trouble is that I'm brand new to dynasty and I'm firmly in the streaming QB camp when it comes to redraft. This makes determining QB value relative to other positions a bit tough for me.

(3) Most of the guys in this league seem to overvalue RBs compared to WRs; they're football traditionalists. Is there any point in overpaying for Bell, Johnson, Zeke, etc or should I be comfortable with my RB core as they stand?

Thanks!

10 team league a backup QB should be super cheap. Your team looks pretty good as is.

Ah, I guess I'm wondering whether or not I should try to pay up for someone of Luck's calibre. Rivers isn't really an every week no brainer starter to me.

I think some folks are just much higher on Wentz than I am. While he could turn into a Rodgers/Wilson calibre player, I'd say his odds are much higher at ending up in the Cousins-Dalton range of guys who sometime flirt with great production but mostly end up in the middle of the pack. Like I say, opinions differ. I should point out that there are some names on the waiver wire who shouldn't be there, but we have a few owners who just aren't paying that much attention and others who aren't thinking dynasty.

QB -- Tannehill, Lynch, Goff, Teddy
RB -- Prosise, Perkins, Washington (DET)
WR -- Boyd, DGB, Perriman, Dorsett, Carroo, MBryant

So, knowing that there are guys on the waiver wire with long term value and little current value, I don't mind trading Wentz away for an elite (IMO) tight end and a RB upgrade.

I'm not sure what you mean by unbalanced. You look fine, as every team should in a 10 teamer.

You " cashed out" on wentz in your stategy. Why would you overpay for qb now? You just gained eifert and yeldon in your opinion.

Start rivers every week and grab a 2qb when it's time...for the bye week.

I would grant Lynch or Goff just to stash if you have the roster room. Also Perkins, Boyd, Dorsett should not be on WW.

Unfortunately, I have no roster room. Coates could be dropped (I picked him up this week thinking that he had the clearest path to short term trade value) but I don't think there's anyone else on my roster who I'd drop over for those players. I also have to bring Lewis off the IR when he comes back, which will mean another cut unless someone else goes on IR before then. I'm doing what I can to try to open up a roster spot by dealing 2 for 1, but no one likes to be in a deal where they give away the best player...

Thanks for the input so far everyone.

Missed this. I'm certainly not looking to overpay, just looking for feedback on whether rolling with Rivers alone is a fine strategy for now (seems you think it is, but I'm guessing you also didn't like the Wentz deal).

As for every team looking fine in a 10 teamer, I assure you there are some bad ones. ;)
