Lockett or Shepard?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Lockett or Shepard?

Postby that one guy » Mon Jun 13, 2016 7:44 am

PPR, 12-team, no return yards...

Who ya prefer? I'm torn: hard to "like" a SEA WR too much, and the potential for being check-down behind OBJ is enticing. But am I evaluating on solid biases or just looking with blinders?

My preference is Shepard.

Lockett is explosive but I see him as a bit of a one trick pony. I see Shepard as a similar player to Cobb. If you get points for return yds, that certainly closes the gap.

Shepard. Even though he's going to be the #2 that means lots of single coverage for a pass happy O.

#2 with Eli is a lot better than being a Seattle WR. I do like Lockett but it's a very easy Shepard for me.

I guess I'm in the minority here but give me Lockett (though I may be biased). I liked what I saw last year and I think him and Wilson have a very bright future together. What I liked most was that Lockett kept working to get open, which worked really well with Wilson's ability to extend plays. Hopefully they take him off of returns and focus him solely on WR. As to Shepherd, has Eli ever managed to support 2 fantasy relevant WR's? Not a rhetorical question, I really want to know cause I can't remember him ever doing that. And it's not like they haven't tried to give him multiple targets before.

Lockett has far too limited of an upside. You can probably grab Kamar Aiken right now for peanuts and get as many points. Shepard for me.

I am super high on both and own both. I think talent is even. Lockett is better downfield but still a great route runner. Idk why people say he has limited upside? Shepard is a better route runner but not as good downfield imo. Based on situation as I have them both ranked equal for talent I say Shepard. I think Eli is a better pure passer and OBJ will demand a lot of attention from opposing defenses leaving Shepard 1 on 1. Cant go wrong with either though imo

It's Sheppard by a mile. Just a better overall talent in a better situation.

Lockett has better speed and better yac capabilities than Sheppard but that's where the conversation ends.

Lockett is a good route runner in his own right, Sheppard is a great route runner. Coming out of college he understands the position better than a lot of pros. He always knows where to go in zone coverage, knows how to get a clean release off the line. He understands how to use the sideline as well as anyone coming out of college. Very smart player that makes his quarterback look good. Most importantly he displays big, strong hands, extends for the ball and plucks it beautifully out of the air. Rarely drops the ball. Whereas Lockett is faster, Sheppard has elite acceleration and a ridiculous vertical. In addition, he will feast on single coverage against lesser quality corners as long as OBJ is opposite him. Throw in Ben McAdoo and I'll take Sheppard over lockett any day of the week
