DeAndre Washington

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

DeAndre Washington

Postby smithmn » Sun May 01, 2016 5:32 am

What are you guys thinking about the Texas Tech product that Oakland drafted? I don't know a ton about him, I just know that his landing spot provides a lot more opportunities for carries than a lot of other rookie RBs. Latavius Murray was overworked last year - and after the upgrades to Oakland's offensive line, I'm actually a little bit excited about Washington.

I am on the clock at 2.06 in our rookie draft - I have already selected Jordan Howard at 2.01. Other guys on the board are: Tajae Sharpe, Pharoh Cooper, Leonte Carroo, Rashard Higgins, Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Jonathan Williams, Alex Collins, Braxton Miller.

Our league is PPR, higher points for yardage, and premium for RBs catching TDs (12 points).

I am leaning Washington, but what other options should I look at? I also pick at 2.08 so I can potentially snag two of these guys.

My roster consists of Russ Wilson, Devonta Freeman, David Johnson, Nuk, Alshon, Amari, Josh Gordon, Ertz.

Let me know what you think about Washington or if I should jump on another guy.

I would draft Carroo. He is a first round rookie pick talent.
Note I'm a huge Leonte fan, so take it for what its worth.

I really liked him pre-draft, I'm really having a tough time with his landing spot. I think even if he shines in camp he's their #3 option behind Landry and Parker. So yeah, I'm up in the air about him.

If you really liked him pre-draft then grab him! Talent > Opportunity
Things usually works themselves out.

Considering you pick twice in the next three picks, I would wait on Washington and grab Braxton Miller. It's likely you can take Washington with 2.8 if you want him.

I'm not a P Cooper fan but he did land in a spot that will provide plenty of opportunity. Perhaps he can become a Landry type there.

Jonathan Williams is also interesting to me. I envision him being similar to Karlos and wonder if he'll eat into that backup role. They obviously drafted him because they thought he'd help.

I'd be surprised if Washington goes in the top 3 rounds unless your draft is rookie only and doesn't include the waiver. I agree that Carroo is the best value there, at 2.8 I'd probably look at Higgins or Miller. The only WR in the saddest place in America will be Coleman, so WR 2 & 3 should be up and a lot of the guys they took before Higgins don't inspire me much.

I'd avoid Jonathan Williams unless you want a guy that isn't going to play through his contract. He's a roster clogger at this point.

Washington just doesn't look like an NFL player to me. I admit I have Latavius on my team, but looking at it objectively, I just can't see Washington making an impact.

Of the guys you mentioned, I'd probably look at Carroo, Cooper, and Braxton Miller the most. I see why you're looking at an RB here, but I don't think Washington is the solution. As someone else said, go with the talent that you like, and not the opportunity that you think is there. Opportunities change, but if you believe in Carroo's talent, he's a worthy investment...and you don't need him to start right away anyway, considering the rest of your receivers there.

I think Washington is the type of guy that was clearly drafted to compliment Murray rather than replace him.

From Rotoworld after he was drafted -

Washington (5'8/204) was a two-year starter in the Red Raiders' backfield, compiling a career rushing line of 605-3,411-23 (5.6 YPC) with 124 receptions. He showed his long speed at the Combine, blazing 4.49 with passable marks in the vertical (34 1/2") and broad (9'10") jumps. Despite lofty college production, Washington struggles with drops, pass protection, and fumbles and is undersized by NFL feature back standards. He may have to show special teams value to hang around. Apr 30 - 2:11 PM
