Doug Martin = 2015 Winner of NFL Draft

Postby DLFiend » Sun May 03, 2015 9:51 am

Doug Martin is locked and loaded to be TB's bellcow again this year. Now that defenses can't key in on the run game b/c Jameis, he'll look to bounce back after an injury-plagued 2014. After he got healthy, he looked great the last few weeks of 2014 and Sims is terrible.

Agreed.
I don't think Sims is terrible but I don't see him as a terrible threat either

What is your projection? How many yards/tds?

1,100 yards, yards from scrimmage, 6-8 TDs. Provided he can stay healthy.

Agreed. I'm ready for a nice bounce back. If the line can improve and jameis cam keep the defense honest I think Martin could have a nice year. Still holding out hope haha

Yeah, should be an interesting season for Martin, they only brought in Dominique Brown out of Louisville as an UDFA ... They added OT Donovan Smith who will probably play LT and picked up Marpet to play RG, so the line looks like LT Smith, LG Mankins, C Dietrich-Smith, RG Marpet, RT Dotson .. heard the Bucs are also very high on the G from last year's draft Kadeem Edwards..

Now if Martin will keep from dancing in the back field east-west and be a bit more decisive getting north and south, could be the difference...

Still concerned about the OL however, just in the fact that we are so thin at the position .. would have liked to seen the Bucs pick up more UDFA OL, but they haven't ..

Not really anything to sell high on. There's no market for him. More like a potential buy low opportunity.

I am a Buc fan and a homer, and I have no shares of Martin. Guess that tells you what I think without too much detail.

Yeah as a Martin owner I see very few trades from other owners looking to acquire him.
Maybe that will change but I bought a few places hoping he would be moved or nothing would change in the backfield

Pretty much, i'd wait right until the season is about to start though. Maybe he tears it up in preseason or something and gets the hype train going again.

You could say that about the top rb on any team in the league. Martin is awful though and he'll be lucky to hit those very low numbers.

So I shouldn't regret packaging him up with Sims for Davante Adams?

When healthy, he's been serviceable. That's only about 50-60 yards and a TD every other game, numbers he can probably pretty easily reach.

So let me get this straight. Martin's a winner in the 2015 draft, so now he can be projected as a high RB3 to low RB2? Gotcha.

Martin did look decent in the last few games of 2014, but he was playing some very poor rush defenses. His perceived value has at least brightened some though, I'll give you that. TB looks to have a competent QB now (even though he's a rookie), and they've spent some capital on improving the O-line. The fact that TB didn't draft another RB at least says that there is some confidence in who they already have. Whether that's Martin or Sims, none of know for sure though.

People haven't wanted to pay more than an early 3rd to late 2nd for Martin. I think this possibly bumps his value up to the mid 2nd range, but he's still a player that you'll need to find an owner that really likes him in order to get that for him. His upside and his outlook is at least better than it was a week ago, but I don't think there's going to be a huge resurgence for Martin. The very modest projections that were given ARE attainable for Martin IMO, but those type of numbers doesn't make owners hurry to attain a player or make him very valuable in fantasy football.
