Really questionable trade went down

Postby Mrlinderman » Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:25 am

So this trade just went down in a league I'm in, and I'm trying to wrap my head around it as it seems really sketchy. I took over an orphan, and there were a couple other orphans in the league. I'm not sure if either of these owners took over one of them.

Team A Gives:
Martavis Bryant
Eric Ebron
James White
1.09

Team B gives:
CJ anderson
1.06
2.06

Now I'm really high on CJ, so it may skew my view of this, but this trade seems really one sided. Thoughts?

Really questionable trade went down

Postby FiremanEd » Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:29 am

Both sides gave up some solid pieces. This isn't collusion so it isn't an issue. Different opinions on player/pick value, but that's bound to happen. If both owners fee they won, that's what matters. I don't think you can make a strong case it's anything more than that...

No way its collusion. All it takes is one owner to be high on Martavis and Low on CJA or vise versa and the trade makes perfect sense. Move along

Makes sense to me. I love CJ so in my mind it's one sided, but that's why I needed other opinions haha

I think this is one of those instances (I'm not charging you with this allegation, but it's important to remember for next time) where Owner C would've given up a lot more for Player X than Owner B, and didn't make the offer to Owner A about it and has regrets.

Now, if you did offer something better than Owner B, I'd be a little skeptical and maybe ask Owner A why he turned your offer down.... But if that's not the case, you can never be jealous of another trade for going down if you didn't offer.

It seems in reading threads that a lot of people are much higher on Bryant than I am; that along with the unfulfilled promise of Ebron; and a lot of risk and uncertainty with CJA - this seems like a pretty reasonable trade to go down.

These threads always disappoint. I was expecting something much crazier like Martavis Bryant for 2016 4th or something like that... This trade actually seems reasonably balanced.

You even questioning this deal is why I don't like league votes on trades. It looks very even to me and depending on my team I'd prefer the Anderson side. Anderson could easily be worth nothing a year from now and it could be a huge steal by the other owner.

So imagine this: CJA loses his starting job to a returning Montee Ball week 1. (while a long shot, not ridiculous)

Suddenly this trade isn't as outlandish as it appears.

Looks like a perfectly defensible trade to me. I'd be on the CJ side, but I can see the Bryant side owner thinking he made off like a bandit.

It's incredibly lop-sided imo, but I'm also incredibly high on CJA. The 1.06 is the next best piece of that trade.

But I wouldn't call it collusion or veto the trade or anything. It's the case of one good owner getting a good deal over another owner.

As a league stats person/co commish for over 20 years (not dynasty) I do not see anything crazy going on here at all. Let is go and move on but keep an eye on the next trade or their player drops to be sure.

Makes sense. I don't know any of the owners in this league, so I guess i err on the side of skepticism. I feel a lot better about it and the league in general now too. thanks!

Personally I like the Bryant/Ebron side of the trade. CJ...I like him but we do realize that Denver has had a different #1 RB for what...3 or 4 years in a row now? Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Juwan Thompson as the #1 RB this year or Ball back in the saddle or some surprise rookie pick they pull out of a hat. I'm certainly not buying CJ and selling him anywhere I have him. Plus he's an RB. Unless he's really an elite back he'll be replaced in 2-3 years anyway while Bryant will still be playing 10 years from now let alone Ebron.
