Adrian Peterson in Dallas

Postby DecafMaverick » Thu Mar 12, 2015 7:19 am

With the news that DeMarco Murray is seriously considering joining the Eagles, I think this can only mean that AD is going to DAL. We've all heard that the O-Line is outstanding, and they obviously have the QB/WRs to keep the defenses honest. So, what do you think Peterson can do in this offense? He's going to have a chip on his shoulder and will be completely rested coming into the season. I think he's ready to put on a show. The rest of the league should be scared...

There is no way that Dallas can afford AP's cap number this year. It's not even debatable. The numbers say they can't.
Dallas between the people they have signed, the draft picks they will eventually sign, and about $1million for free agents throughout the season, Dallas has about $5-$6M in cap space. Hence why they are losing out on Murray.
Rumors came out this morning that the Bucs have an aggressive plan to trade for AP. They at least have the cap space for it

If you click 2015 Salary Cap Table for the Cowboys and then scroll to the bottom; Dallas has $3.695M in cap space after the top 51 contracts and their projected draft picks. They just physically do not have enough money to do it

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/cap/

Same Salary Cap Table for Cardinals. $7.9M including their draft picks. Not really enough to trade for AP unless he restructures either.

does that assume the franchise tag value for Dez doesn't get reworked before the deadline?

I wouldn't rule anything out right now, but that is pretty good evidence he won't be going to dallas. I wouldn't believe any reports right now. Too much click bait going around when it comes to AP.

Correct. This assumes the price of the franchise Tag stays just that and does not get into a long term deal. Although what does a new deal save them? $3 or $4 million tops probably. that only gets them to about $7M

If that happens and Dallas has ~$7M in cap space. Lets say AP and MIN just cant figure it out and they release him. There were talks at one time that the relationship between the 2 were that bad. AP has made it known that he would love to play in Dallas. See him taking a 1 year prove it deal for $5-$6M just to get a chance to play for the team he's always wanted to play for.

Obviously a lot of things would have to fall just right to get it to happen but it could

All good info, but I think AP to DAL is still a possibility for two reasons. One, AP could demand a release from MIN instead of a trade, which would allow a new team to sign him to a new deal. Two, teams have shown that if they really want a player, they can make cuts and restructure things to make it work. The odds are against DAL, but their bad cap situation alone isn't enough to 100% rule them out.

I wouldn't rule anything out. If KC can find a way to sneak Maclin's cap number into their mess, the Cowboys can get creative with AP. It was suggested he would be willing to tweak his deal to facilitate a trade he liked.

Viking fan here, from what I've heard the Vikings will NOT simply release AP. He is worth to much to the franchise and they would rather go the route Carson Palmer went with the Bengals and for him to retire before they let him walk without getting anything in return. If AP doesn't play for the Vikings next season, it's because he gets traded or because he retires. Obviously he doesn't want to retire but if he really dislikes the organization to that extreme, he could exercise that option also.

And the Vikings can tell him to stop being a little bitc* and no we will not release you. The Vikings have all the cards in this game. He can sit out and get paid nothing and still have 3 years remaining on his contract. The Vikings have the cap space to pay him and will not cut him.
