Josh Huff - anything to see?

Postby DLFiend » Sun Mar 08, 2015 7:59 pm

With Maclin going to KC and Kelly having a boner for Oregon players, what are some thoughts on Huff?

I think Huff gets a shot but I ultimately think they draft another WR or sign a deep threat guy like Harvin or Britt in FA. Either way Huff probably becomes the long term #3 worst case

Before I try to acquire him, I just remember Kelly saying last summer he just wants big WRs (6'2"+) and Huff is only 5'11". So I think he might be confined to the slot, at least in Kelly's conceptualized playbook.

I don't see anything in Huff. Seems like a ST and occasional gadget weapon. The fact that he knows Kelly's offense is obviously a major plus, but I don't see him ever having a major offensive role.

I think he ends up in the slot for this season at least. A decent dart board throw in that offense.

Which doesn't say that much since with all honesty; Matthews seems very limited.

Huff, Matthews and "player to be named later" will be the starters next year. I fear that player to be named later might end up Riley Cooper, haha.

Anyway, it is my belief Huff will be given every opportunity to start along with Matthews (whether he takes advantage or not is yet to be seen). Athletic enough to be a solid player, but I hate to rely on wr's under 6 foot and he definitely needs to improve his consistency. Looked great when he actually held onto the ball though, haha.

Eagles fan here, and just wanted to say that Huff was Cooper's direct backup last year.

Take that FWIW.

Kelly prefer's his slot WR to be 6'2+, so Huff would be on the outside if anything.

FWIW, Chip has said that he knows his WRs can't all be 6-5, but that he wants them to have weight to them. Huff is built like a running back in that regard.

Exactly, being able to block is huge for his scheme, which is why Cooper is even still on the roster.

Dude was going to get a chance with or without Maclin resigning. Chip hand picked his former player, so he knew what he was getting when he spent 3.22 to get him. If you can get him for a good price I think he is worth the gamble imo.

I can't see how Huff has higher "upside" than Matthews. Weren't we reading last month that Chip wanted to pick Matthews in the first round?
