Never said he wasn't talented. I mean that Crowell could turn into another guy who is obviously talented but perpetually stuck in a reserve role while we all wonder "what if?".

I keep thinking that Crowell's UDFA status may keep him from being named the starter outright, as for some reason teams care about this over talent to some degree (Re: CJ Anderson)

But I go back and watch the college tape...then you see what he's done in the NFL, and can't help but think it's only a matter of time

ESPN's Tony Grossi is reporting that "it appears" Crowell will start for the Browns this week against the Texans. I was all set to roll with West as my flex. Thoughts on this news?

It appears Crowell will start today??

I'm super duper pumped right now.

I can't wait for the wildly optimistic analysis of his performance regardless of how he actually performs.

so, i say this as someone who is very, very high on Crowell:

a) i wouldn't trust anything coming out of the Cleveland front office/coaching staff before game time.
b) even if accurate, we've learned it means little to nothing wrt who will score and how much
c) even if accurate and significant, it may be a bit of bad-good luck for Crowell to win a start against the Houston D. (if Mallet face plants and Cleveland ends up running a ton of garbage time, this may work out for [insert Cleveland RB]

I'm still unsure of Crowell myself but if he turns into a top 15 rb I'm bumping your brain-dead stupid posts every week for the next 5 years. According to you the guy got cut in the preseason and you've been wrong every single step of the way. Maybe at some point you should go troll another thread.

Crowell looked like he missed at least one crucial pass block so far, but it's clear play action is much, much better when he is on the field. Not sure if that's a +/- overall for the passing game.

And there's the fumble. Say goodbye to Crowell. It was fun while it lasted.

Crowell runs really well, but I'll say this, boy does he fall down a lot even on good gains. And not like Arian Foster fall down on purpose either. Just like, trips on his feet.

Barring something spectacular happening with about 6 minutes to play, I'm going to give Crowell a failing grade for tonight's performance. I think we saw why the Browns were hesitant to play him more. He simply can't get out of his own way. He showed once again tonight that he's the best runner on the team, but fumbling yet again, giving up a big sack and running what looked like the wrong way on a screen pass are all things that can't happen. He needs to stick his nose in the playbook or he's going to squander a lot of talent.

The play action game really did thrive off of him, however. But you can't make that many rookie mistakes in one game, no matter how well you're running (over 4.5 YPC for the vast majority of the game). The fumble may have unfortunately lost them the game.

No, they let him play through it. He pretty much played the whole game. It was frankly a really good play by a defender. The coaching staff seemed to treat it that way rather than a mistake-driven fumble.

Crowell is no doubt the most explosive back on this team, as seen on his 35 yard run. However, his deficiencies as an overall back are becoming more and more apparent, and that is why for now, he is better suited to the backup/change of pace role. West is the best all around running back on this team, and fantasy aside, the Browns should go with him. His pass protection is better, he has good vision, and can catch the ball. Crowell is just not ready for lead back duties....yet. I think it's safe to say that Ben Tate has worn out his welcome in Cleveland. 2 carries for -9 yards, and more whining after the game. This is good news for both Crowell and West owners moving forward. When Tate was hurt, and the two rookies were playing (before Mack got hurt) they showed that they could be rotated and both be productive. I think that West and Crowell both have a future on this team, and Tate will probably not even see the second year of his contract in a Browns uniform.
