Ranking the young TEs

Postby vtguy88 » Tue Apr 22, 2014 1:44 pm

There's a good collection of strong young TEs in the league breaking out/about to break out. What order do you have the players in, and how much of a benefit is there in having two of them instead of just one? I'm especially curious about people's opinions on the second point. Obviously people want to have depth at RB, but how much upside is there to having depth at TE too (only starting one)?

- Zach Ertz
- Ladarius Green
- Jordan Cameron
- Tyler Eifert
- Kyle Rudolph
- Jordan Reed
- Dwayne Allen

I really like all of these TE's and have high hopes for all of them, but my personal rankings would go like this.

Jordan Cameron

Tyler Eifert
Kyle Rudolph
Jordan Reed
Ladarius Green

Zach Ertz
Dwayne Allen

I think that if you have any two of these guys or one of them sitting behind the likes of Greg Olson or Jason Witten puts you in pretty good shape at the TE position.

People seem REALLY high on Eifert? Is he that much better than Green?

My other question, how helpful is it really having multiple TEs worth their salt? Is it comparable to depth at WR or RB or QB? Worth more or less? Haven't dealt much with multiple TEs and such

It is interesting to me to see pretty much everyone have Allen dead last amongst this group given how much hype he got going into last year. And that's not to say I disagree with the ranking, because I can definitely see an argument for all of those guys above him being ranked as such, but what makes them more promising to people? Ertz, Eifert, and Rudolph (and Green to an extent) have shown some promise here and there, but none have exactly looked fantastic for extended periods by any means with the exception of Cameron and Reed maybe. For a guy to unanimously be at or near the very bottom of the list there's gotta be something about him that people have soured on as of late. He probably has the best QB of the bunch, and in most cases by a significant margin, so it shouldn't be that. Too many mouths to feed in Indy?

I was surprised by 2 things:
1. That people were so unanimously low on Allen. I'd probably have him low and maybe at the bottom as well but thought it was close enough that some would have him significantly higher
2. That so many people have Eifert so high. I think he has talent but he hasn't looked like he has as much upside to me as Green, Ertz, or Reed. Maybe it's just me.

Hue jackson has never seemed like a guy that uses his tight ends. I like eifert but think hes in a rough spot as far as fantasy production, especially on what looks like will be a run heavy offense.

Cameron ( Only because he's proved himself productive. I wouldn't be surprised to see him regress a bit this year)

Ertz
Reed
Green

Eifert

Rudolph
Allen

This whole list is a bit tough for me, but I think most of these TEs are very close. I like Allen a lot, yet I have him at the bottom. That tells you how even these guys are to me.
