Marlon Brown worth owning?

Postby TommyL31 » Thu Aug 22, 2013 7:17 pm

Watching the Ravens game and Marlon Brown has looked pretty good. Flacco has been throwing the ball his way a decent amount.

It is the third preseason game so I feel like this might be a bit more reliable especially since no one else has stepped up. Is he worth an end of the bench add in deep leagues?

He did look good, and there is no sure thing after Torrey Smith for Baltimore WRs, so I scooped him up after he caught the TD in the only league that I'm in with unlocked acquisitions currently.

Definitely worth a look.

I watched the game and came away rather impressed too. I don't really know anything about the kid, but I might have to do a bit of research.

I usually disregard most preseason stats from these sorts of scrubs, but the fact that he was running with the 1s against Carolina's 1st was definitely worth noting.

With no real receiving TE threats to speak of, Doss looking somewhat bad, Mellette doing nothing noteworthy, Stokely being an old stopgap, and Jacoby Jones being Jacoby Jones, the situation is most definitely open for someone like Brown to have value if he can continue to perform well. It's not like Torrey Smith is a possession receiver either, so there are balls to go around.

He's already been grabbed in 2 of my leagues when I checked after the game tonight. Not sure if I would have wanted to drop anyone for him anyway, but it was worth investigating.

now comes the interesting part... i have brown rostered and a big ravens fan is offering a late '14 3rd rounder for him. It's always tough to put a value on preseason sleepers. I don't really need him, because in my sig roster I already have prospects like Thompkins, Hankerson, Boyce, Hill, and Ch. Johnson. Then again I would hate for him to put up WR3/4 numbers and only got a 3rd rounder for him. Do people really think he's going to be the WR2, and even so will he have much value there? Flacco does have to throw to someone, I suppose.

Id take the pick and focus on upgrading the pick through future trades over the course of the season.

I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about the guy but he's popped out at me almost every game so far this preseason. Seems to have a big set of sticky hands and does a great job of plucking the ball out of the air away from his body. Isn't afraid to go up and get it while going across the middle either. Doesn't look overly fast but he looks smooth out there

i see the wr2 position in baltimore as worthwhile if brown can beat out jacoby jones. torrey the only reliable WR they have, jones is a bum and brown has passed mellette. tes dickson and clark aren't reliable. torrey/rice/brown will be doing a lot of the receiving work.

Obviously with it being the 4th preseason game Brown was running with the backups, but that's to be expected. He posted another nice 4/79/1 stat line though, which continues his strong preseason. I'm curious to see if his play can carry over into the regular season, assuming he makes the team which should be almost a given at this point.

I managed to grab him in one of my leagues, and with roster cuts looming before the season starts, it's going to be incredibly difficult for me to cut him....

Would anyone rather roster Brown over Dwayne Harris or Damaris Johnson?

I'm not very high on damaris and would rather have brown over him, harris and brown would depend on your personal preference. harris' ceiling right now is Dallas WR3, brown's is baltimore WR2.

Brown over Damaris easily, I'd prefer Brown over Harris but that one's closer.

I'd probably take Brown over Harris at this point, though I do think Romo's WR3 has a higher fantasy ceiling than Flacco's WR2. I mostly believe that Harris isn't going to win the WR3 job over Williams.
