Unless Decker lucks himself into another amazingly precise pocket QB he will be nearly worthless once Peyton Manning retires. Can we all acknowledge this fact? He simply is not a great talent at the WR position, and I don't care if he was semi-productive with Tebow. Tebow was much more beneficial to his WR's than people like to let on.

Welker will hurt Decker's production in the short term..and thats all that matters, Peyton is going to retire after a couple more years. I see a couple years of low-end WR2 production out of Decker before he falls off a cliff once Peyton retires.
So unless Decker gets the most accurate QB or the least accurate QB, he is screwed. Got it.

I was going to respond to a few ridiculous post but I realized halfway through there was no point, the fantasy football community is so overreactional it's not even funny. Suddenly Eric Decker is now worthless. These are obviously facts. Gotta love it.

I dont think Decker is worthless by any means. I just dont see how you can say Welker wont get a ton of targets from Manning.

Stokley had 58 targets last season. Welker is Avg 156 targets over the last 5 years.

Welker was in a prolific passing offense and still managed to get those targets.

That means there will be at a minimum 50 less targets for other Wr's on the Broncos and the ceiling could reach 100 less targets. Those targets have to be taken away from somewhere and IMO the majority will be from Decker.

Or the TEs...143 targets at that position...I have a feeling that dips.

Well thats a good point I do think some of those targets will come from the TE position.

However Manning has shown in the past that he will target the middle of the field a ton. Dallas Clark benefited from this for years.

neither of those TEs are Dallas Clark. And really Clark only had 3 big seasons and they were when Marvin had either declined or retired.

Its going to all fall on Manning. If he can continue to throw for 4500 yards all three WR's should be in play for weekly line ups. If Manning dips down to 3800 all three are in a lot of trouble. He's 37 this year. By 39 he could be a shell of his former self. Its when the drop off hits. I predict 4200 next year.

He threw for 4,700 and 37 TD's in his first football action in 20+ months. On a new team. Still rehabbing.

His arm is going to be stronger next year than it was this year. Manning has said so. Fox has said so. Elway has said so. Doctors have said so. He was rehabbing all season long. It's not going to be the 2004 version of Manning (arm strength wise), but it will be better in 2013 than it was in 2012.

The one thing that seemed to bottle up this offense in 2012 was when teams took away the outside of the field and played 1-on-1 across the middle against Stokely & the WR's. That is exactly what Wes Welker destroys: 1-on-1 matchups across the middle of the field. I really think this offense is going to have a field day next season. And it's funny to think, that for most of the season, the offense essentially stopped playing in the 4th quarter (I think they won all 11 games during their streak by 7+ points, many by 20+). If their defense didn't play lights-out, and if the Broncos didn't play a cake-walk schedule, we might have been looking at 5,200 yards and 42 TD's - and that's before the addition of Welker.

Agreed on it falling to Manning. Disagree about him declining. His game is not predicated on amazing physical tools; his game is predicated on accuracy, timing and preparation. If anything I'd actually expect him to be physically stronger the next two years than he was this past year. Barring injury I project him to play three more years at or above last year's numbers. That IMO bodes well for Decker, Welker, and DT.

2004
Manning threw for 4557 yards

Wayne had 77 receptions for 1210 yards
Harrison had 83 receptions for 1113 yards
Stokley had 68 receptions for 1077 yards

It is possible it could happen again.

And didnt they all have at least 10 TDs? 10 TDs would be a career high for Welker!

The only thing that makes me feel his 4600 could be an anomaly comes two fold.

The first is Manning had a year off and I do believe his neck and should are gaining health. But his legs back and arms had a year off to recoup. Those at the age of 37 tend to wear down as a season goes.

Second Den was a run first team coming into 2012 and teams prepared for that. Yes they knew Manning would be more effective than Tebow however with reports he was still having issues with his velocity. Coming out of the box vs. Pitt Manning had a season low 26 attempts.

I think Denver caught a lot of defenses off gaurd once Manning began to move the ball through the air. Defenses looking at that RB crew won't make the same mistake thus I think why they bought Welker. The cats out of the bag. I am young so recoup is a matter of a day. I suspect at 37 it will be a week long venture. He will decline. No one defies age.

He went for 600 yards and 8 TD's in 2011..he's pretty much screwed either way once Peyton retires.

Please, try to keep a straight face and tell me Decker will be anything more than a WR3 with Brock Osewiler throwing the rock.

Also maybe a career low in receptions..... Welker only had one year with NE where he had less than 100 receptions (86). I don't count those Miami years.

Decker and Welker are totally different players. Welker is a great route runner with a superior grasp of coverages and how to beat them, which makes very tough to cover. Decker plays pretty slow in NFL terms and not that fast out of his breaks, which makes him only tough to cover because of his size advantage over DB's. Even J.Nelson plays faster and is better out of his breaks than Decker. J.Nelson returned kicks due to his ability to move and his explosiveness. I don't think anyone would ever even think of having Decker return kicks, so don't sell J.Nelson short by comparing him to Decker.
I am not quite sure I agree with the thought that Welker is a huge redzone threat. He has never been in double digit TDs, and only had one more TD than Stokley had last season.

Decker and Jordy are both 6'3, they are both right around 218lbs, and they both ran their 40s between 4.51-4.55...pretty similar. I do think Jordy plays faster, but its not an outlandish comparison.
Welker might only have 7 TD's, but almost all of them will come in the red zone. Welker doesn't have those 4 big play TD's that outside WR's have that come outside of the red zone, because he's not that player. Welker is a great red zone threat because he's tough to cover with the option routes. He reads the defender like a QB does and goes the opposite way that the defender is set up to take away. That is very hard to defend.

Jordy moves way better and is much more exposive than Decker no matter what they have in common. I don't see any real relation in their games. So, I personally don't see them comparable and their comparison selling Nelson short or giving Decker to much credit. Paper comparisons are really meaningless.
