Ryan Matthews place as RB1

Postby hamburglar » Thu Mar 15, 2012 8:15 pm

Where are people ranking him right now? I recently tried to use him as a centerpiece in a shady mccoy offer I was making. I def like Shady more but I think that by the time the season is a month or so in the odds are matthews stock will be higher and closer to Shady. The other owner wanted matthews plus hakeem nicks, plus my top TE pettigrew (double ydg for TE league.)

I turned the deal down thinking i'd rather hold until matthews value goes up this year. Where do people rank him on RB1 list?

That seems like an overpay to me. I would stick with your guys in this case, or ask for something else back. I'm sure there will be some Shady fanatics that will say otherwise, but Mathews and Nicks alone for Shady is pretty damn close, if not still slightly against you. I have Mathews behind Rice, Foster, Mccoy, McFadden, MJD, CJ2K, so I guess #7.

He's #4 on my ppr rb board. That would change if they keep Tolbert or bring in a significant carry threat(which I do not anticipate).

HIGHER than McCoy??? Mathews is no where close to the #1 dynasty RB. Mathews is in the top 10, not in the top 5.

I'm not completely sold on Mathews. I see him as more of low-end RB1/High-end RB2 rather than a top 5 back

Mathews value is incredibly high for some. I just traded him straight up for Julio Jones.

However, I don't see it. The guy couldn't stay healthy with Tolbert vulturing goal line carries. How can he be a bellcow type?

Just my thoughts.

In my PPR league last year Mathews was the 5th best RB with Tolbert taking a ton of touches and TDs from him.

Off-topic....but double Tight End yardage? How much would Gronkowski or Graham go for? I couldn't imagine.

The top 2 players in start ups? Sounds crazy but I would imagine its possible that people think about it! lol

I seriously doubt Ryan Mathews will reach Shady's level in fantasy football. The Chargers Oline is a mess, Norv Turner doesn't exactly seem sold on him, and his injury history is concerning dating back to college. I think Mathews could be a great player, and has exciting potential. That said, I wouldn't go overpaying for him. I don't think Mathews is a can't-miss type players, IMO.

Agreed. It's not that Mathews is a bad player, it's just that his value right now is too high relative to the risk. The Chargers offensive line has been neglected a long time, and they really don't run block that well. Mathews gets hit behind the line far too often. Yeah, Mathews catches passes, so in PPR he gets an obvious bump. But, Norv Turner's lack of confidence is of concern. I also think Mathews toughness is questionable, relative to other running backs like MJD or AP.

Skip- I think your misunderstood me. I am acknowledging Shady > Ryan Matthews... I questioning by just how much though. When I say Matthews stock will be "higher" I mean higher than it is right now... NOT higher than Shady's stock. But I also think Shady cant live up to the hype people have heaped on him. I love Shady, I'm an eagles fan. But I dont think he'll be the best RB in the league... he'll be top 5.

holy_stromboli- I mostly agree with you although I like Matthews better than RunDMC and I THINK I like him more than MJD; but only because of age/milleage.

49ersFaithful80- Here's the thing, he's either gonna be a #1 RB or a bust out due to injury I think... I dont see him being a borderline. That's just me.

Lumps- That is my LEAST FAVORITE part of the league. ESP when you can start 3 TE's in one formation... Gronk and Graham went for about the same as the elite QB's... I got aaron rodgers for near what was paid for the elite two TE's by other players in my opinion.

justinkilmer- agreed. I told him i wanted to wait until we see more actual value during the season to make a real deal.

FYI it's PPR league and this is my current roster

The Hollywood Hamburglars
QB- A Rodgers, M Ryan, A Dalton, J Webb, R Mallet
RB- R Matthews, JStew,CJ Spiller, M Ingram, B Tate, P Thomas, BJGE
