Carson Season Ending Surgery

Postby Dynasty_Analyst » Fri Nov 19, 2021 3:54 pm

With Carson going on IR for the rest of the year who’s the next man up? I feel like Collins, Penny, Dallas, and Homer all have at least a chance of taking the reigns. I’m putting in some claims for Homer tonight in a lot of leagues might as well.

I think so. Especially given the scarcity of healthy RBs at this time of year. If he practices fully on Fridays he’s the best option of the bunch imo.

Does Carson come back from this? Any comp RBs who came back from this kind of injury with neck surgery?

I think he could. Just kind of depends on what type of surgery he's having exactly. I haven't heard anything concrete, but I'd guess it's a micro-discectomy. Basically shaving off the part(s) of the disc(s) that are impinging on his nerves and causing him problems. Of course, mileage may vary from these types of surgery, so I guess it depends on how well this fixes the problem.

If it's some other type of surgery, who knows? If I remember right, it was a neck injury that ended Cam Chancellor's career. So I guess I wouldn't put Carson 100% in the clear. They did say this is a flareup of an old injury for Carson, so it seems he's been managing this for some time, but it's now become untenable so it's time to get it fixed.

Wishing him the best of luck for a full recovery though.

Edit: Just read something that said a vertebrae was involved with the nerve issue. I'm no doctor, but that sounds more serious since a bone is involved and it's not just a disc issue. Maybe there's a doctor on the boards with some insight?

If I had to guess, I would say his career is unfortunately over. I drafted him in a startup for the first time ever. Got great value. Obviously this goes beyond our fantasy needs though. If he can't play football again, that is fine. Wishing him good luck and good health in his recovery.

Yeah, chronic neck injuries for a player who uses his body as a battering ram doesn't sound promising. Absolutely have to take the long term into account.

This is going potentially open up a juicy spot for a RB to be drafted to. Pick 1.01 worthy?

Didn’t think about this, but definitely agree. Especially if Spiller or Hall land there somehow. I imagine they would be 1.01 in a lot of drafts.

How about Rojo to Seattle? That would be amazing. Anyone really considering Penny as a sleeper here to step up? Or can we not trust him at this point?

If we're gonna speculate, imagine the offense without one (or maybe both) of Wilson/Carroll.

Unless penny is consistently laying well for the handful of weeks leading up to the playoffs he is last resort imo. He looked decent to close out the season last year, but the dude is just too soft for the NFL, and I hate saying that because I know I am nowhere near as tough as him, but he is always dinged up, and can never seem to play through it.

Not saying it's impossible, but I doubt any Seattle RB is going to be a needle mover on a contenders roster
