Once the team passing volume regresses DJ will lose most of his fantasy relevance/value.
This is an insanely bad comp.

Their games are nothing alike. Crowder is a slot receiver. Diontae plays outside, runs much crisper routes, is much better vs press coverage and is far more dynamic in space.
I think I went over this in the other thread, but the best comp I could come up with from a numbers and play style perspective was Wayne Chrebet

That is an interesting comp. Wouldn't be a bad career path for Diontae as Chrebet actually outproduced Keyshawn Johnson on the same team and put up those numbers in a much less pass friendly league, even finding himself occasionally in the top 10 WRs.

I don't see the comp stylistically, and he's another slot guy, but I appreciate the take.

AB played outside with a similar build and style.

In AB's first season taking on #1 defensive coverage (after he passed Mike Wallace in 2012) he also struggled with efficiency (not quite to the same degree, but Ben was also a better QB then). Diontae took on #1 defensive coverage in most of his games.

Diontae: 144 targets, 88 receptions, 923 yards, 10.5 YPR, 61.5 YPG, 61% catch percentage
Antonio: 106 targets, 66 receptions, 787 yards, 11.9 YPR, 60.5 YPG, 62% catch percentage

AB is a bit of crazy bar to set for any of these outlier build WRs.. but I still see him as the most similar comp. AB obviously figured things out with time, we'll see what Diontae becomes from here on out as he gains more experience and develops (or doesnt).

Diontae Johnson and his injuries

Postby TheNuts » Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:14 pm

Did anyone pay attention to him much in college? Was he like this then? Writhing on the ground as if he just experienced a season ending injury every time he goes down?

Have you ever seen another player react to being injured like this before? Its fascinating to me. I see guys who suffer far worse injuries and don't flinch. I know everyone has a different tolerance for pain, but it seems a little ridiculous with him.

All soccer players probably fit the description above. However, American football players aren't in the same conversation as soccer players. Diontae actually gets injured. Whether its his style of play or just injury prone, not sure. But he's not faking injuries and hopping up as soon as penalties are called.

Also, this is nothing exclusive to Diontae. If you watch football, you see guys get injured. Ever get tackled by a 280lb dude running full speed with the only goal of hitting you as hard as he possibly can?

There aren't many posts i'd call pointless. This is boardline.

Anthony Davis is kind of like that in the NBA.

So, weird timing with his actual injury, but, as a steeler fan, who watches literally every game, the guy does lay on the field for an extended period of time ~75-80% of games, and almost always is basically instantly back in there.

I’ve actually been surprised it’s basically never been noticed. I’m always too afraid to comment “ahh, he’s alright, he just does this” for fear it’ll be a serious injury that time

I noticed this as well. Always in pain and down. I generally don’t believe in players being injury prome, but this guy is FRAGILE.

But he’s usually actually fine, just a player quirk I guess
