18 week schedule in NFL, 17? week schedule in fantasy?

The new 18 week schedule kicks in this year. Is everyone changing fantasy to a 17 week schedule?

I'd like to go to 17 weeks in the league I run because it makes the schedule "perfect" We have 3 divisions of 4 teams, we play each team in our division twice and then 7 of the 8 remaining teams for a total of 13 games in our current 16 week schedule. If I change to a 17 week schedule we get the division games and all 8 of the other teams for a total of 14 games.

I'm not changing the fantasy schedule just yet. I want to see if any teams rest their starters the last two weeks. A longer season means a dominant team can lock in their seed with more remaining games.

We're going to a 17 week schedule. Previously, our playoffs would start on week 14 but with the 18 week schedule came week 14 byes. No one wants the fantasy playoffs affected by bye weeks so we're just going to roll with it and have a 14 week regular season with playoffs starting on week 15.

3 divisions in a 12 team league, I think it’s a no-brainer. What were you doing with 16? Play each team once and two of three division opponents twice? Play each division opponent twice and almost every other team once? With 17 it’s just so clean with that league setup.

We pushed our playoffs back one week and were able to reduce our regular season doubleheaders by one so that we get 2 conference games and 1 nonconference game against each opponent for our standard 19 game schedule.

I believe that the odds of any one team going into the second last week of the season being up by 3 games or 2 games and the tiebreaker in hand over the rest of the conference, and also risking going into their first playoff game with starters on 3 weeks of rest is extremely remote.

This is what sealed the deal for my leagues as well, don't want to deal with that going forward

I’m in the minority on this one. Bye weeks in the playoffs are far from ideal, but a one-and-done playoff format is even worse. We decided to go the opposite direction and shorten the duration of the regular season. We’re playing 11 weeks of double headers for a perfectly balanced 22-game regular season.

For the playoffs, we let the top five teams in. Everyone sets a lineup in weeks 12-13. The top two seeds are protected from elimination, but their scores still count. The team with the lowest cumulative two-week score among the 3-5 seeds is eliminated.

The semifinals are weeks 14-15. Scores carry over from the previous two weeks. The two lowest cumulative four-week scores are eliminated. The two remaining teams meet in a two-week championship game in weeks 16-17. The scores reset for the championship.

Like I said, it’s not ideal, but it seemed like the best way to minimize the impact of bye weeks in the playoffs while still retaining multiweek playoff games, which are hugely popular in my leagues.
