Why is it that every year we see a day 2 back and say "yeah but I don't see a path to volume." Shanahan traded up for this guy.
Re: My Final 2021 Rookie RB Rankings -- Pre & Post NFL Draft
We're talking dynasty here. The guy in front of him is 29 and none of the RBs on the team are signed past 2022. That's a super-clear path that's clearer than any RB outside of Harris in this draft... I'm just saying, outside of injury, not this year.Lord_Varys wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 8:28 am Why is it that every year we see a day 2 back and say "yeah but I don't see a path to volume." Re: My Final 2021 Rookie RB Rankings -- Pre & Post NFL Draft
Sermon ran zone in college and will transition easily into that in SF. Definitely the type of back that the Shanahans are infamous for turning into stars.
The only downside is that the scheme is trusted more than the RBs themselves. So, if you get injured...then things become more complicated.

Re: My Final 2021 Rookie RB Rankings -- Pre & Post NFL Draft
I’m trying to find the love for Etienne, but don’t see it. I think he can be a good pass-catcher and has great north-south ability/speed, but to me his contact balance is average and I think he lacks the strength to be an every-down back in the NFL.
I surprise myself by saying this, but I’d rather take Javonte Williams who played in the same conference and showed much better foot quickness and vision who has some sneaky upside as a pass catcher.

I know a number of people had Williams ahead of Etienne pre-draft so it wouldn't just be a landing spot adjustment to value Williams higher - although I'm not excited about either landing spot.alewilliam789 wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 11:59 am I’m trying to find the love for Etienne, but don’t see it. People are worrying too much about Etienne IMO. My projection is 65 receptions 575 yards and 6 TD's through the air plus another 700 on the ground with 4 rushing TD's as a rookie.alewilliam789 wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 11:59 am I’m trying to find the love for Etienne, but don’t see it. Etienne is an elite RB. Williams could surprise but I don't see that production in 2021 with Gordon in the backfield.

Yeah for me it’s not even about landing spot because I’m considering making a trade that would put me in a position to draft both, but I’m having a hard time believing that Etienne is a 1st round NFL pick when Kamara and Swift (who in my eyes are better RBs/prospects) both went in the 2nd/3rd. Imo the Etienne pick was a reachAvery wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 12:22 pmI know a number of people had Williams ahead of Etienne pre-draft so it wouldn't just be a landing spot adjustment to value Williams higher - although I'm not excited about either landing spot.alewilliam789 wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 11:59 am I’m trying to find the love for Etienne, but don’t see it. Sure Etienne will be used like Kamara, but I don’t see the same contact balance or foot quickness as him. The reality is if Etienne wouldn’t have added to his receiving skills which highlight his blazing speed in the open field he’d be considered an average NFL starter.Ice wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 12:26 pmPeople are worrying too much about Etienne IMO. People also seriously underate Kamaras lower body drive. He’s taken on a business mindset so sometimes he doesn’t exhibit it, but he has the ability to leg drive when he feels necessary.

Etienne will be used like Kamara? That assumes Daryl Bevell / Urban Meyer have Sean Paytons creativity, which they do not. Thinking moreso Meyer wants a new Percy Harvin.
Re: My Final 2021 Rookie RB Rankings -- Pre & Post NFL Draft
I do agree that landing spot can be overrated, but if you think Williams is a better talent, then it should be an easy decision which to draft.alewilliam789 wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 12:29 pmYeah for me it’s not even about landing spot because I’m considering making a trade that would put me in a position to draft both, but I’m having a hard time believing that Etienne is a 1st round NFL pick when Kamara and Swift (who in my eyes are better RBs/prospects) both went in the 2nd/3rd. I think it's important to remember, that if a player falls, every team wanted someone different, but if he is picked, and picked earlier than he was projected, only one team has to think he's worth it.

Re: My Final 2021 Rookie RB Rankings -- Pre & Post NFL Draft
Opinions vary but I couldn't disagree more. Etienne has incredible balance after contact, he breaks tackles with relative ease and his burst is second to none. I do think Kamara has slightly better lateral agility but Etienne has a bit better burst and more speed.alewilliam789 wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 12:31 pmSure Etienne will be used like Kamara, but I don’t see the same contact balance or foot quickness as him. One of the absolute biggest Pluses for Etienne is the fact his Incredibly gifted QB knows his every move, speed, and bust so check downs and routes themselves will be second nature. Etienne for his part knows Lawrence's tendencies which will help him in pass protection.
Williams is walking into a hot mess at QB and has to deal with Gordon who is a solid RB in his own right.
While Etienne may never be Kamara; He certainly has the skill set to be close if not better long term.

Re: My Final 2021 Rookie RB Rankings -- Pre & Post NFL Draft
Sermon landed in a great spot. Someone else asked me what I thought and I said as much, but also said the 49ers will probably draft a second RB because of Sermon and Mostert's injury past. Along comes Elijah Mitchell. The 49ers don't care who the RB is, they just want guys who can fit the system. Sermon won't win the role as lead back, but he'll eventually get lead back carries when Mostert gets hurt.
Williams landing spot is fantastic imo. Denver is notorious for making RBs look good. Maybe it's the thin air in Denver and defenses have trouble with it? Regardless, that Williams landing spot is about as good it can be imo. Good for him. He won't be "the guy" this year, but he'll have a chance to show us his stuff next year when Gordon moves on.
Etienne landing in a fine spot too. He already has chemistry with his QB, and doesn't need to be the guy the carries the load 24/7. I think his rookie year will be the third best out of the top 3 backs, but I also think his ceiling is higher next year and beyond.
Hill falling in the draft was puzzling to me, until someone said on NFL Network that his political stances may have contributed to his fall in the draft. I read about the flag thing and I don't know about that. Maybe there's more and I just don't know about it? Either way, that landing spot is terrible. He could be selected in the 4th round for the Packers and I'd still hate it.
