One thing I've learned about fantasy football...
One thing I've learned about fantasy football...
One thing I've learned about fantasy football is never, ever, NEVER assume that your player valuations and beliefs about team rosters (yours and competitors) are reality for the other owners in your league.
I've made trade offers for vets to teams that have no chance, rejected because "I'm a contender."
I've made trade offers of vets for picks to teams that should be rebuilding, accepted because "I'm a contender."
I've hesitated to make trade offers for Trade Bait (or just in general) because I was CERTAIN that the owner would not make the deal only to see a much weaker offer than what I considered getting accepted.
Add your own "One thing" or discuss someone else's. Good distraction from draft, ADP, and other arguments.

Re: One thing I've learned about fantasy football...
I've seen this too. When I thought it was clear that a team was in a rebuild, he's buying veterans for his playoff push. It's stunning sometimes. For bigger trades, I might open by asking if they're in a rebuild or playoff contending situation as I don't want to anger them.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Honesty & Candor - Building positive relationships through respectful communication has helped facilitate more trades in my experience. This is especially true when responding to a trade offer that doesn't necessarily jive with your roster construction.

Re: One thing I've learned about fantasy football...
One thing I've learned is to be patient and roll back the quantity of offers being sent out. Sometimes other owners will instantly reject because they are overwhelmed. The longer the wait period, the more refreshing it is to receive an offer. This is of course league specific!

Re: One thing I've learned about fantasy football...
2 things I have learned, and have to keep reminding myself of:
(1) Cashing out on small increases in value are sometimes better than waiting for a big payoff
(2) The goal of each trade shouldn't be the win the trade by as much as possible, the goal of each trade should be to make both teams better and all other teams in the league comparatively worse. If every trade accomplishes this you will a) be able to make more trades since both teams improve and b) gain far more value than other teams because you are making more trades.

The past always repeats........it's just the names that change.
Skill gets you into the playoffs.......and luck wins you the championship once you're in there.

The thing I learned over the years is that I pretty much suck at it.

Yes! I have way more fun if I get my guys, even if I overpay. I'll go down with the ship if I have a bad take, but nothing worse than missing on your guy and he blows up.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Re: One thing I've learned about fantasy football...
My "one thing I've learned" is actually 4 things (a couple are repeats):
• Get your guy.
• Making the playoffs consistently takes skill. Winning the championship takes luck.
• Go against the hype. If a player is being overhyped, sell him (or don't even try to buy). If a player is being under hyped, or owners are buying into the "better to sell a year early than a year late", buy him (especially as a win now team).
• Going off of the previous point, ignore the "sell a year early" articles. I want to milk every good year of my players as possible. Unless I'm in a complete rebuild, it's always better to keep a player a year too long if my goal is to win a championship.
