Ja'Marr Chase Thread

Postby dvpkwys » Tue Mar 30, 2021 6:35 am

Obviously just rumours and mocks, but seems to be traction of Ja'Marr Chase landing in Cincinnati. They need to protect Burrow, but I don't think it is that far of a stretch to draft Chase. In that scenario, what happens to the rest of the Bengals WRs? Enough targets to go around to Chase, Higgins, Boyd and Mixon? Currently owning Higgins and Boyd, it is a little concerning.

I wouldn't worry about it until it actually happens. It sounds like a matchmaker's dream to reunite the two, but Bengals have more pressing needs. Making sure Burrow stays off his backside and protects his newly constructed knee is the first priority. After that they'll select fun weapons.

Unless ATL takes Sewell...

Fun to think about but I highly doubt it happens as O Line is a more pressing need and there are 2 out there worth more than any WR IMO from a NFL perspective. When a team needs a LT they draft a LT.

That need is one of the most difficult positions to fill after QB with a pro bowl caliber player.

I love Chase and think hes the best non QB prospect in this class by a wide margin, but this would be a bad move for Cinci. Their problem hasn't been at WR.

If they do take Chase, I think itll get a bit murky between the three WR (ala 2020 Tampa bay) but Burrow will still likely throw 40+ times a game again and getting sacked 3-4 times a game. Higgins would probably be my fade of the three in normal PPR leagues.

If they think Chase is the best player available, they should take him. I can see it happening. Maybe they like Pitts there too.

Even if Sewell is gone they go Slater if they are serious about Burrow succeeding.

What they should do is different from what they will do.

Chase at 5 is a very serious possibility

If they don’t protect Burrow it doesn’t matter who is catching passes.

I am guessing their logic is that Chase is a better prospect than Sewell (which the NFL seems to agree with) and thus that Sewell/Rondale Moore/some 3rd round edge player<<Chase/Dillon Radunz or Liam Eichenburg/a guard or center in the 3rd

If they do take Chase I imagine they double dip on OL in the second and third (OT and iOL)

The Bengals already have Jonah Williams & Reilly Rieff at Tackle ... they really need interior OL. So I could see them drafting Chase or Pitts and addressing OL in round 2.

Sewell is a prototype LT and Williams is a prototype RT. Those bookends would be very rare. Rieff turns 33 in December. Locking up LT and RT for the next decade or so is huge. Slater is also a beast and probably more pro ready than Sewell but with a bit less upside long term. Like both better than anything on their roster.

Hoping one slips to Dallas given how rare these two are in football. Guys like these do not grow on trees.

I would be stunned if they pass on a Tackle personally but as someone said; They are the Bengals.

Agree, but there are seven rounds in the draft, not one. Plus free agency and trading. Going best player available is the best route IMO.

Well, he ran 4.38, 41 vert, and 11 foot broad. I guess I wouldn't blame them for doing so now.

Why do you think Chase is the best non QB prospect by a wide margin compared to guys like Sewell or Pitts?

Because Terrance Marshall also ran a “4.38 40,” we can assume Chase’s time was actually not that fast.
