James Conner?
Pitt RB James Conner, who missed most of 2015 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, received a clean scan today, a week prior to combine, per source.
Saw this posted by Adam Schefter. Anything to see here? If I remember correctly he was one of the RB's people were excited for this draft.
2013 - 146/799/8
2014 - 298/1765/26
2015 - Lost Season
2016 - 216/1092/16 and 21/302/4 receiving
So it's not like last year was bad, but I don't see anyone talking about him.

Re: James Conner?
I think people don't talk about him much because he seems like your typical 2-down big back, maybe not to the level of Fat Rob last year but in the same category I think.

If I owned Conner currently, I would be thrilled if he is next year, where Fat Rob is right now.

Re: James Conner?
He showed a little receiving prowess this year. I think he's underrated and forgotten due to other names but looks pretty solid
Re: James Conner?
He should remain a nice value because I don't imagine him blowing up the combine. The media will have a field day with his medical though so I could see him not being as cheap as he is now.

Re: James Conner?
I like Connor quite a bit a 2nd round rookie pick. I do agree he is being overlooked, but the shear number of quality RB prospects in this draft means someone will fall through the cracks. I agree with the others that he will probably continue to be a forgotten name... at least I hope so.

Re: James Conner?
I love his ferocity and his heart on the field. Also saw some good things on the tape as well. He is mostly a 1 cut runner but he hits the hole hard and looks to get up to top speed quickly. I have always liked runners like that. I am very eager to see what he does at the combine. As of right now, I would love him in the mid to late 2nd.....subject to change, of course.

Re: James Conner?
OK....OK, after my combination of scotch and horse tranquilizers have worn off I would agree that a 2nd round projection is a little aggressive. However, I hold to my point that at the middle to end of a draft, when most picks are a dart throw anyway, I look for guys like Conner. Now, back to my scotch......

Re: James Conner?
If he's there in the 3rd I'd consider him, if he's there in the 4th I'd take him w/o a second thought. I imagine he'll be all the way back by next fall, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's difficult to play at 100% when you've been cleared to play. All that chemo, all of that treatment, time out of training, i imagine it would take quite a while to build back your strength, stamina and athleticism (if its possible-cases like Berry say it is), sounds like Conner worked like a mad to keep his body strong during treatment, so maybe he didn't lose as much as I thought, but regardless I think he comes into the league and finds a role with a team that likes to have a big back working 2 downs. The fact that he proved he can catch makes him a potential 3 down guy, is his blocking great? I could picture teams like New Orleans, Washington, New York (both), Detroit, Tampa, Carolina, Cleveland, Buffalo, Cincy, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Oakland and Denver taking a long look. He's one of those guys that teams unwilling to spend a day 1 or day 2 pick on a RB, will look long and hard at. Some teams have a real affinity for those kinds of backs, and some other teams also play in weather where a mudder like Conner could really be a great asset will also be interested. I could definitely picture him going to teams in the East, Midwest, and Denver, and some Southern teams having interest as well.
It will be interesting to see which teams don't even consider him, which teams over-indulge with his narrative, and don't pay enough attention to his metrics, and which teams overrate his combine and don't pay enough attention to what he did during his healthy second year (which is probably the best window into his abilities).
I think he's a capable starting back, but a player that could easily fall into a committee situation where he's the banger, and the team turns to other options on passing downs. Would be a better design if teams used him like Blount, but not for fantasy purposes obviously, and the added skill of pass catching is really HUGE for him. Doesn't allow teams to easily categorize him as they might have otherwise.

thoughts on James Conner?
Trying to figure out if he's worth a hold in my league, basically have to cut 2/3 in Conner, Demarco Murray or Bilal Powell. I've read from many that he is a cut candidate, just wondering why? What is his player profile/comp? I don't follow college much, all I really know about him is 1. he's a feel-good story and a sensation guy 2. he tore it up in the preseason.
let's leave the possibility of Bell finding a home elsewhere out of the equation if possible, as with Ben returning, I really don't believe that's a possibility. BUT, let's not leave the possibility to Bell is high risk for a full a season, and even if it's injury/suspension, a few games from him can be a difference maker in W/Ls in our league as it is very, very competitive (this last year, the 3rd and 9th team were only seperated by 1 game heading into Week 13).

Re: thoughts on James Conner?
I don't know much about him and I'm also curious to see what other people think of him. Only thing I'll add though...
His best preseason stats were:
- 20 carries for 98 yards against the Falcons week 2 (10 for 30 in the 2nd-3rd quarters, 10 for 68 in the 4th alone)
- 4 carries for 26 yards against the Colts week 3 (all in the 3rd quarter)
Having said that, just being the backup to someone as skillful/smart as Bell does give him some mystery appeal to me... similar to any "unknown" backup learning from/waiting behind a great starter (obvious example being Jimmy G before his first start in 2016)
People who watched the games can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's a misconception I've heard before that he "tore it up in the preseason". Maybe he flashed on a couple plays or his stats jumped out a bit, but from the small sample size I saw from him I remember him looking kinda JAG-y to me.hjernazian wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 4:37 am I don't follow college much, all I really know about him is 1. he's a feel-good story and a sensation guy 2. he tore it up in the preseason.

Re: thoughts on James Conner?
To me Connor has actually entered must-hold as long as there's any kind of rumor of Bell leaving/retiring. The Steelers still have a significant draft capital in him and I think he'd get first shot at the start
