Nailed it.

I really miss being in leagues with my old friend who used to start every conversation with "I'm interested in trading for (X player) what can I do to make that trade happen?"

Very few people in this game think that way any longer. Which is why you have threads like this.

In the offseason, I was offered Gronk for a 2022 3rd, which I declined.
Today, the same owner offered me Gronk for a 2023 1st. Guess he really thinks Gronk value has spiked after missing a month of football.

An owner trying to pry Elijah Moore from me, hoping I'd sell low after his tough first half but not understanding I'm in a rebuild and have all the patience in the world.

Asked for Elijah Moore for a future 3rd, 4th, and 5th. This being in a 16-team league, where those later picks won't even make my team.

I declined politely, to which he countered with Pascal, two 4ths, and a 5th. Sigh.
Team 1: 16-team dynasty, non-PPR, 20-man roster, $450 salary cap (w/o contracts) with salaries that increase 10% every year.
Starters: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, K, DST

QB: Lamar Jackson ($23), Mac Jones ($15), Jake Browning ($10), Jameis Winston ($10)

TE: Dalton Schultz ($12), David Njoku ($30), Juwan Johnson ($11), Jonnu Smith ($10)
Taxi: QB Jake Haener, RB Chris Brooks, WR Dontayvion Wicks, WR Derius Davis, TE Brenton Strange

2022 Runner-up, 2023 Champion

2025 picks: Rd 1, Rd 3, Rd 5 (x2)

I actually relied on that twice after the initial offers were rejected. One reply helped find an acceptable trade, the other was ignored. Guess which of the two is an abrasive ahole?

I can honestly say that when someone approaches me that way, I'm more inclined to work with them. It just comes across as more collaborative - that my valuations and what I'm looking for will be incorporated in the deal along with theirs - as opposed to how combative most people seem to be these days - that it's their valuations and wants and needs that will fully drive the deal regardless of what I'd be looking for. If I had to put #'s to it, I'd say 50-60% of the time if someone approaches me that way, it will result in a consummated deal...but I'd say 100% of the time if someone haggles over everything, I'll just walk away.

I literally negotiate deals every day for a living and the PSA in my sig completely encompasses what I see every day. I know it pisses people off in this forum but in my experience haggling (one sided bargaining) kills good deals, true negotiation (collaborative, two sided bargaining with trade offs) makes them.
PSA - Haggling is NOT the same as negotiating.

Same, I take this approach often and it's usually met with "idk send an offer" or no reply.

I agree that in some cases, it will make an owner more likely to work with you. But for many, I think owners take it as an opportunity to play more cat and mouse because they then have the advantage and leverage of setting the price from which you'll negotiate

Sometimes I take the 'blind offer' approach (one that won't end up in the BAD TRADE OFFERS thread) and if/when it's declined, then I send a message and say something to that effect ("Interested in player X, anything I can tweak to make that work?")

This i like, personal pet peeve is after asking that I get asked to send the initial offer. If that's the case I will without a doubt lowball with no regret. You want my guy and for me to send the first offer nah

Yeah, this really annoys me. You're just expected to go through all the hassle of putting together a trade package when the other managers is the one who started this whole transaction.

I much rather start with something like:

"Hey, I want X, what are looking for to make a trade happen" and the expectation is that I will set the guidelines like "I want a young RB, or early picks, etc.", but don't come at me asking me to got through your assets to figure out a trade you initiated. It's just lazy.

Wish I could IR Deshaun Watson. Being offered a bucket of IR players (whoever they are) has significantly less appeal when yours is already full. This is just not looking at your team closely. Might as well offer Thielen to a rebuilder on an even-value swap because they're struggling at WR, lol.
