Draft Classes: 21' v 22' v 23'

Postby Snake » Wed Dec 23, 2020 10:12 am

Hi All. What are your thoughts on the next three draft classes?

One of my dynasty strategies has been to trade out of draft classes that are perceived as weak/moderate and try to load up on picks in draft classes that the dynasty community believes are strong. For example, I traded all of my 2016 picks for 2017 picks (Plus some extra value for delaying a year).

I read in one of me league chats that 2022 looks weak, but 2023 could be a really good class. Honestly, I haven't been following college football much this season outside of the ACC. What are your thoughts? Is anybody planning to trade their 21' picks for 22' or 23' picks?

21' looks good if you play in Superflex, PPR and TE premium leagues, but would be lacking in a 1QB non-PPR league. I don't know much about 22' or 23'.

Looking forward to hearing some thoughts from the devy community.

23 is so far away that it's hard to say. But, since 2011, every 3 years after is a good class, so maybe it's a good idea to get picks while it's early

Too early to say for sure, but 2023 could be an absolutely loaded draft with potential studs at all 4 fantasy positions.

Names to keep an eye on over the next few years

QB
DJ Uiagalelei Clemson
Bryce Young Alabama

RB
Tank Bigsby Auburn
Bijan Robinson Texas
Jahmyr Gibbs Georgia Tech
Seth McGowan Oklahoma
Deuce Vaughn Kansas State

WR
Marvin Mims Oklahoma
Rakim Jarrett Maryland
Julian Fleming Ohio State
Kayshon Boutte LSU
Demond Demas Texas A&M (hasn't played yet this year, but freak athlete and off the chart potential, could end up as the best WR in years or complete bust who knows right now)

TE
Arik Gilbert currently LSU but probably transferring.

Obviously a lot of time to go to add or remove names to this list, but it's a great looking class considering how far out it is.

I rebuilt in 2019, I had five firsts and a 2nd. Everyone was dumping them on to me. I was trying to get into the highly sought after 2020 draft and I couldn’t give the picks away.

I ended up with M Sanders, Harry, Metcalf, AJB, Fant and P Campbell.

Fast forward a year and I’m in playing in the championship. With a young core that will have many more years of competing. So much for a down draft year.

The previous year everyone was falling over themselves to get into that 2018 draft. Penny bust, Guice lol, R Freeman bust, KJ bust, S Michel leaning towards bust, you get the picture.

Don’t let the experts deter you from investing into a rebuild class. Is it nice to spread multiple 1sts of over a few years, yes, but you have patience to follow through.

Obviously very early, but I dont love the 22 class and have heard some say its the worst in comparison to the last 4 or 5 classes on paper.

Idk, I think it's pretty good but I question the depth, that's a completely normal question for a draft class this far out though.

QB has 2 nice prospects in OU's Spencer Rattler and UNC's Sam Howell, but they aren't quite on par with this years loaded class.

RB has two really strong prospects in Isaiah Spiller from A&M and Breece Hall from Iowa State, and Jerrion Ealy at Ole Miss could be really good too. Sure to be other names that elevate between now and then.

WR I really like the top 3 of Garrett Wilson Ohio State, George Pickens Georgia and David Bell Purdue, all are strong 1st round candidates. Also if Justyn Ross bounces back from his injury (he got good news in his recent checkup and is expected to play again) he can rocket back up the rankings and be in the 1st round once again.

TE who knows but there will probably be something.

Out of the 3 drafts ('21, '22, '23) I would agree that '22 might be the weakest, but it can still be very good and there are names to be excited about with more sure to emerge.

I know haha, just simplifying it because it's essentially been the same as sending out the backup QB to handoff a couple times to finish the game off. Hopefully he gets some run in the bowl game, would be good to get a preview of what's hopefully to come in the next 2 years.

Generally, when the community is really high on a draft class, they tend to be right. When the community is really down on a draft class, I try to immediately start buying those picks.

2022 rb class actually looks pretty decent right now with Spiller, Harris, Hall, and Kyren Williams, plus some high ranked recruits that could still pop like Trey Sanders, Zack Charbonnet, and Harold Joiner.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

I remain curious which guys might return in ‘22 because of the problems w/the covid partial ‘20 season. Seems like that’s the only way ‘22 will be improved. It’s been frustrating because I would’ve moved more ‘22 picks if I could’ve gotten a better feel for guys pulling a Chubb/etienne but I have no clue. Definilty will try to move ‘22’s for ‘21’s and ‘23’s while trying to sweeten my ‘22 side of the offer.
