2020 Draft Class

Postby blauria3 » Wed Dec 09, 2020 12:21 pm

I've only been playing dynasty for the last 2 1/2 years. 2020 draft class seems to be producing some great players. I'm curious to hear how you all think it measures up to the others from the last decade?

So far its up there. Now we just have to see who the late bloomers are and who flames out. But when it is all said and done I reckon it'll be pretty up there (at least offensively)

Yeah, 2020 is a rare class in that there are a LOT of hits from the way it looks already. Most years you don't have a good feel for another year or so, but this one has been nuts despite no or shortened off-season practices.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Interesting, I don't see 2020 as being all that incredible overall. Really exciting QBs, and some very good WRs, but virtually nothing at TE (which was expected) and incredibly disappointing RB performances. A UDFA is balling out, and Gibson has produced a ton of TDs and has played above expectations for sure, but CEH/Taylor/Dobbins/Swift/Akers have all delivered more heartburn than thrills. Moss has been decent. Dillon has predictably been a complete zero.

Definitely a WR class for the ages I don’t see how more than a couple of the following guys bust at most between lamb, jeudy, Ruggs, Higgins, Jefferson, reagor, mims, shenault, claypool, Pittman, and aiyuk

Solid class overall. Probably not as good as the 2017, but we will see in a few years. Definitely has the star potential across all positions except TE.

QB- Herbert and Burrow look like franchise starters. Tua could very well be in the conversation sooner than later.

WR- JJ having a historic rookie year. Lamb, Aiyuk, Claypool, Higgins all look like potential stars. A handful of others aren't far behind just dealing with setbacks, mims, Pittman, reagor, jeudy.

RB - CEH, Taylor, Swift, Dobbins have all flashed. Maybe hasn't been up to the hype, but there will be some top end RBs from this list if not all four. Gibson and Robinson have both been nice surprises. Akers and moss could still do just fine too.

TE- they rarely break out early and it's pretty uncommon most years to get a stud. I never draft TEs anyway.

Way too early to make judgments on this TE class. I see a world where a couple of Trautman, Kmet, Bryant, Albert O and maybe others turn into fantasy relevant players. We've seen flashes from all of these guys in their rookie year.

It's not quite as good as the 2017 class, yet. But there is still plenty of time for players to emerge.

Slow starters Jonathan Taylor and Cam Akers could still emerge as studs. James Robinson... yea, I think at this point we say screw the draft capital and just admit he's a legitimate talent that slept through the cracks because he went to a small school. Gibson, at this point is a legitimate talent as well scoring TDs on one of the worst offenses in the NFL. I don't have a lot of hope for Zack Moss as a stud, but AJD really hasn't gotten a chance to show much of anything.

The WRs have been amazing and again.. there are WRs that could still emerge down the line (a few I honestly expect to emerge).

TE's -- well.. you never see these guys hit the ground running. No superstars, but a lot of guys on IR and Trautman has at least shown up.

QB -- Burrow, Herbert, Tua are all promising franchise QBs. We'll see about Hurts in the coming weeks. And Jordan Love could still emerge (as much as people want to make fun of him.. lest we forget that Mahomes also spent most of his rookie season as the 3rd string QB).

Has the makings of a great class. We'll see how great in the coming years.

So far so good, but remember that guys do flame out after flashing.

The 2009 draft class is a perfect example.

Remember Knowshon, Beanie Wells, Shonn Greene, Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin, Kenny Britt?

Meanwhile some guys had long term holding power. LeSean, Crabtree, Maclin, etc.

Nicks....what a shame that injuries did him in. I remember him going as a top 2 dynasty WR right behind Megatron.

Kenny Britt didn't have a great rookie season. Neither did Beanie. Knowshow reminds me a lot of CEH

Hakeem Nicks.. man.. Sammy Watkins.. why the hell do these teams let these super stars try to play on a Lisfranc Injury????

Percy Harvin and those migraines were also just really unlucky...

Surprised nobody mentioned 2014, given the similarities in a deep WR-led class (though 2014 was much heavier)

2014: Beckham, Evans, Watkins, Robinson, Benjamin, Cooks, Landry, Adams, J. Brown, Matthews

2020: Jefferson, Lamb, Claypool, Aiyuk, Higgins, Jeudy, Mims, Reagor

Biggest difference is that 2014 basically changed the game as far as what people expect from rookies right away. It wasn't normal to see so many WRs be so good or flash that quickly.

Very true, we saw the echo from that year reverberate for a while with so many WR's being drafted early in the 1st round.. even though they were far inferior talents.

It's not just fantasy players that trick themselves into thinking outlier years are the beginning of a new trend.

2014 is the best WR class but a really bad RB class and didn't deliver any great QBs.
