Not too surprising, but you never know with the Lions.

Well, he's succeeding at accomplishing the Jets' primary objective at the moment  . It would be very fitting for both Gase and the Jets if they screwed this up and ended up with the 3rd pick in the draft though.

Bill O’Brian = bad
Dan Quinn = bad
Matt Patricia = bad

All of these coaches certainly deserved the axe they received, but the fact that Gase still has his job is pretty remarkable considering he’s been demonstrably worse as HC of the NYJ than those guys were in their respective positions.

I feel like its a fitting punishment for Gase to finish coaching the rest of this season. No sense in rewarding him by letting him head home early.

The mystery of Gase even being hired by the Jets is unfathomable. He was a horrible coach for the dolphins and the Jets were like "Man I need to get me some of that!". Logic long since would have seen him canned but hell they may just extend him at this point.

People talking about Houston, Detroit, and Atlanta and comparing to the Jets are ignoring a key difference - expectations. The GM for the Jets had his first offseason this past year (as he was hired after FA and the draft the year prior) and knew coming in what his plan was. Moving on from Gase doesn’t really do much. He’s not mad because they disappointed. He wants the top pick. Gase is accomplishing that well. Few pieces remaining on the team will be key figures going forward. At this point, if you weren’t firing weeks ago, you might as well go near the end. Who lasted longest in a lost season is a fairly irrelevant measuring stick. Everyone knows the Jets will be a vacancy.

Maybe Gase is the only one they could get to coach the team. Players only go there to get overpaid if that's what they are looking for. One of the worst run franchises in all professional sports. Don't be shocked if Trevor goes back for his senior year and Gase gets another year.

Idk that's like saying players tank games... Most assistants would line up to take any head coaching job. Gase is gone after the year 100%

Lawrence doesn't need to return to school to avoid playing for Jets, he will have enough leverage to force them to trade the pick or his draft rights. If the Jets take him and he refuses to sign they will have no choice but to trade him eventually, otherwise they run the risk of him sitting out the year and re-entering the draft as the guaranteed #1 overall pick again in 2022 and the Jets get absolutely nothing out of having one of the most valuable draft picks of all-time.

It's the Jets though. I wouldn't rule anything out at this point

Total BS. Matt Rhule wanted to coach the Jets, he only turned it down because the Jets wanted a say in picking his coaching staff. Mccarthy was also interested, but didn't like the Jets getting involved with the coaches.

Peyton Manning vouched for Gase, and the Jets owner bought in. Hey Gase may suck at coaching, but he is probably great during the interview.

Regarding Gase being worse than Patricia? How? Patricia took over a winning team that won, 9, 9, 7 and 11 games in the 4 years prior. But that wasn't good enough, so they brought in Patricia to sure up the defense and with Stafford, Detroit was sure to win...
Instead the team hated him and the defense was terrible.

Gase has been a bad coach, but not Patricia bad.

I do fear, the Jets win some games and Gase keeps his job. But if the do end up with the first pick, Lawrence will be their QB. Any other talk is pure nonsense.

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have made so many people relevant that it's insane.

They're going to fire Gase, I think they just didn't see any point in an interim hire since they were already out of it early.

I do worry if the Jets can build a great team with Lawrence, but if you're him, then there's certainly worse outcomes than getting drafted #1, living in New York, and making a crap ton of money. Plus, nobody will ever blame you if they lose because the Jets organization is so terrible.
