When you tell owner his ask is too low...(complete)

Owner put Barkley on block in team 1 league. New owner so asked him what kind of spots is he looking to fill. Fully expected he'd ask for my first but he said "A first and great LB."

New owner, I couldn't do it. Told him straight his ask is too low. I'm not looking to pay huge, by I did suggest a RB and WR should be added.

Must be getting old. (I'm still going to buy cheap, just not THAT cheap)

EDIT
You get a discount but not a total fleecing and hopefully a good future trade partner
Give: Cooper, Watkins, Vander Esch, 2021 First
Get: Barkley, Quinnen Williams

I like the story, it's nice to win a trade, but also nice to feel good about it and know you didn't completely fleece someone.

I've done this before. Simply added a 2nd to my side or a different play. I am the commissioner though so I kind of feel slightly more obligated not to fleece someone. Not sure how I would handle it in a league I wasn't commissioner in....

Unfortunately, some GMs don't give a damn about the second part of that. I've still got PTSD from years' worth of trades I've seen. Sad part it's almost always the usual suspects - the shark and the putz who's barely active.

I find myself looking for reasons to leave a league like this. Or at a minimum making it a "back burner" league that gets the least attention. Most of the low activity owners in my current leagues just don't make ANY trades and few transactions, which is a little better as they're not compromising the integrity of the league.

WTF.....

I am in a couple of IDP leagues where Barkley wouldn't even command a top tier LB much less an additional 1st.

Trades depend on scoring systems and start requirements but feel free to pat yourselves on the back in a safe space.....

I use my fleecings as teachable moments (post-fleece, of course).

I did this on a much smaller scale in one of my rookie drafts this season.

Asked an owner what it would take for me to move up from my 4.09 to his 4.02
He said "idc we can just do it straight up"

So I sent him my 4.09 + 2021 4th so that the league wouldn't get fussy

The reason he didn't care was because he thought his guy (Bowden) was gonna go undrafted.....I took Bowden lol

There are plenty of posts here where this sort of snark is appropriate. Don't be a tool on this feel-good post about doing the right thing.

Yeah, I'm conflicted because this is a league where I have at least some real life friends, and my only dynasty league since '07.

Sure there are other issues - philosophical rules differences and clear communication are the big ones - to the point where I've thought about adding another dynasty league to the mix so I could "back burner" and stress less about the occasional stupid stuff in this one.

It's tough - been 13 years and I ultimately still enjoy the competition and challenge which for now outweigh the occasional BS. That and I spend way too much time managing my team in this league, can't imagine I could stay sane having to spend even more in multiple leagues.

Well thats good for you. certainly the initial offer from his was likely low, but ultimately depends on IDP scoring and where that first is. I will say that I think you ended up overpaying.

Hah, yeah, it's hard not to roll my eyes a bit every time I hear "shares" of X player anywhere in the dynasty space - much moreso on other sites or podcasts.

That said, I did try something new for the first time this year - a free best ball league through Yahoo. Now I actually know how it works and what it's like - after the draft, it's pretty much zero work but still somehow really fun!
