2020 NFL Trades- Impacts

Postby Pullo Vision » Sat Oct 10, 2020 10:11 am

With it becoming clear which NFL teams could be contenders vs looking to next year, trades could have dynasty impacts. PFF speculates a match of Matt Ryan to Chicago. I've been hesitant to buy ARob because he doesn't have a QB but adding Ryan would be huge. Could also mean Atlanta goes full on tank- Julio suddenly ranks up DNPs while the Falcons enters the running for Lawrence/Fields, a boon for Calvin Ridley.

I honestly don’t know, when’s the last time a QB like Ryan was traded in-season? Seems a rare move, but I could be wrong

You're right. A QB of his caliber has never been traded during the season. Seems like a pipedream.

x3 the assets and cap space it requires to make a move like that needs the flexibility of the offseason

Players rarely get traded in the NFL because teams are still charged the dead cap hit as if they cut the player outright. This is a rule that really should be changed.

Using the Matt Ryan example, if the Falcons traded him this offseason it would be a 50 million dollar dead cap hit. His cap hit to be traded during this season would be 75.8 million.

As an aside to the OP, how long does Robinson have to keep putting up WR1 numbers in his current QB situation before people are willing to accept him as a low fantasy WR1?

I haven't seen this suggested anywhere but Matt Ryan for Jimmy G with picks. Haven't crunched numbers, but seems like it'd be even. Previous experience in Shanahan system.

I love ARob as a talent. His ceiling games might put him in WR1 ranks any given week, but the poor QB and scheme lowers his floor too much for me to want to roll as a WR1 each week.

Not seeing much on the trade front so far. Wonder if there will even be any activity

Names I've beard as potentially traded this week- AJG, Ertz, Will Fuller, Marvin Jones. Cephus got cut in one of my leagues, but picked him up in the off chance the other starting job opens up.

Just Mike Florio speculating. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... el-thomas/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com ... eculation- "Dealing Thomas makes no sense for the Saints to incur a $20 million salary cap charge for 2021."

Day 3 picks maybe. No reason for the 49ers to give anything of substance up for him when he'll likely be free in the offseason.

You might say SB is the reason, and as a fan I'd say that's highly unlikely.

I agree. I honestly don't see anything happening at the deadline. The NFL usually doesn't have much movement, especially on notable skill position players for fantasy.

But, it's something to watch for in the offseason.
