Poll: Are no TC and PS related to injuries?

Postby Bronco Billy » Mon Sep 21, 2020 10:00 am

Curious to hear feedback on this. I’ll open with my opinion that players need to be “hardened” to the regular season contact and rigors and need training camp and the preseason to get themselves ready for that level of contact.

Yes, granted preseason doesn't need to be four games, but all those offseason camps, workouts, and trainings have always been for a specific reason. Without it, this is what you get. Football is a brutal sport and bodies are not meant to go through the type of physicality they do. So, you need the conditioning to do it.

Training camp isn't going to prevent guys from getting hurt by being rolled up on or landing awkwardly and tearing their ACL or suffering a high ankle sprain, and those two injuries are the ones that most of the big names suffered yesterday, it's just bad luck (and unsafe playing conditions in NY).

Think I will just say there really isn't anymore injuries overall but it sure does look like it. I think we need to know how many training camp and preseason injuries plus the 1st two weeks last year vs this year through 2 weeks.

Time and number of actual players could impact the numbers. Teams carried large numbers of players for much longer periods last year it just we didn't really hear or keep track of those injuries.

Injuries like ACL's are not affected at all IMO.

Would be interesting to actually see the real data.
The clock is running and there are no timeouts

I'm pretty sure every year there's a "Is it just me or are there more injuries this season?" post.

Maybe there's someone who tracks injury counts by year, but I would expect this is about normal.

There absolutely is. It probably is about normal rate, it just happened to hit bigger name players this year.

If it was a completely normal offseason/preseason and this happened everyone would be saying players are over worked before the season and that's why there are so many injuries.

Yep. And I always think my team gets hit harder than most. Who knows if that's true. Probably not.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Link to Ringer story
The sudden ramp-up from training camp to competitive action sparked concerns over the amount of soft-tissue injuries NFL players could sustain this year. In 2011, injuries increased dramatically after the NFL lockout. NFLPA president and Browns center J.C. Tretter noted in a letter before the 2020 season that injuries increased by 25 percent in 2011, with Achilles injuries more than doubling and hamstring strains increasing by 44 percent.
