Early Season Devy Report

Postby Samhammy » Thu Sep 17, 2020 9:02 am

Many of the top devy prospects will be starting their seasons in the next few weeks, but wanted to give some notes on a few players who have played so far.

QB:

Trevor Lawrence (Clemson '21) - Not much to be said here. Generational talent at QB. Will be 1.01 in SF rookie drafts next year without question.

Spencer Rattler (Oklahoma '22) - So far, the hype is warranted. Has future Heisman winner written all over him as Lincoln Riley's next great OU quarterback.

Sam Howell (UNC '22) - Struggled a bit against Syracuse, but he's a special talent. Should be fun watching him, Rattler, Slovis and Daniels compete for QB1 in 2022.

Micale Cunningham (Louisville '21) - Love the way this guy plays. Following in the footsteps of Lamar. Still makes too many mental mistakes. Isn't the athlete that Lamar is but has good size, a lively arm and may throw the best deep ball in CFB. Could be a big time riser in the 2021 QB class.

D'Eriq King (Miami '21) - Incredibly explosive dual threat QB. Has more arm talent than I think most realize. Many thought Lamar didn't have an NFL arm until he proved everyone wrong. If this guy gets drafted to a quality team in the 3rd or 4th round, watch out.

Sam Ehlinger (Texas '21) - Great decision coming back for another year. Not exceptional at anything, but Ehlinger has real talent and a chance to sneak his way into being a day 1 pick if he really lights it up. Most likely scenario has him being drafted as a backup.

Brock Purdy (Iowa State '21) - Very disappointing loss for ISU to start the season. Still really like Purdy as a prospect. Needs to improve decision making, but this guy is a true playmaker. Reminds me a lot of Minshew.

RB:

Travis Etienne (Clemson '21) - Everyone knows what ETN is capable of, blazing straight line speed on display as usual. Still have him a touch behind Najee Harris in the 2021 class, but much will depend on his landing spot.

Cam'Ron Harris (Miami '22) - Love the way this guy runs. Explosive and runs low to the ground. Split a ton of time with Deejay Dallas last year. Could see Harris getting similar draft capital to Dallas come 2021.

Javonte Williams (UNC '21) - Michael Carter is entrenched as the starter, but really wish they'd give Williams more touches as he's clearly the superior talent. Great vision, power and contact balance. Could see him becoming a sleeper day 2 pick.

Kenneth Walker lll (Wake Forest '22) - Great freshman season. With Cade Carney gone, should be Walker's backfield. Had a disappointing first game, but expect him to bounce back. Rare vision and patience for a RB.

Kyren Williams (ND '22) - A different level of talent than ND has seen in the past with big bruising guys like Josh Adams. Many thought the backfield might belong to Jafar Jefferson, but it's Williams job now. Major riser in the '22 Rb class.

Seth McGowan (OU '23) - Incredibly explosive Freshman talent. Going to be really fun to watch him develop. Big riser for me in the 2023 class.

Keontay Ingram (Texas '22) Complete back. Has 3-down potential at the next level. Chance to be special if he can stay healthy.

Bijan Robinson (Texas '23) - Number one high school RB recruit in the country. This guy will be future stud. Comes into Texas with NFL size. Remember this name.

WR:

Charleston Rambo (OU '21) - Will make serious noise with Rattler this year. Long, lanky frame and needs to add some more weight, but big time fast. People are just starting to talk about Rambo, but with the numbers he'll put up this year, don't be surprised if he sneaks into the 1st round in 2021.

Amari Rodgers (Clemson '21) - Clemson's most experienced receiver. Following the loss of Justyn Ross for the season, the opportunity is there for Rodgers. Has a chance to put of big time numbers playing the slot this season. Could see him sneaking into a day 2/3 selection if everything goes right.

Joe Ngata (Clemson '22) - A top-50 recruit in the entire nation when he joined the Clemson Tigers. Physical freak - showed up to last year’s spring games at 6 feet 3 inches and 210 pounds. And while he only caught 17 balls last year, his time to shine is now. Should be up there with Pickens and Garrett Wilson at the top of the '22 class.

Dyami Brown/Dazz Newsome (UNC '21) - Love both of these guys. Dyami gets a little more hype in college circles, but I think Dazz may be the better NFL talent. Both should feast this year in an explosive UNC offense.

Joshua Moore (Texas '22) - All offseason talk was around Brennan Eagles, Jake Smith and Jordan Whittington. Injuries to Smith and Whittington have opened the door. Slight frame at 6'1 but extremely explosive. He really surprised me, will be interesting to see how he continues to develop.

Good stuff! I like Rambo, but I think Mims is the OU wr prospect for devy. Broke a lot of Texas HS records, if I recall correctly and looked the part in his brief action last weekend.

You definitely cannot ask for more from Mims than he gave in his first collegiate action. I expect him to continue to look good as a returner this year. As far as targets, those won't be as easy to come by as the season continues as Rambo will get his, Wease (5 star sophomore) will get more looks and Stogner will as well. Then Bridges will return after his suspension and there is even chatter that Haselwood (was #1 overall wr in high school) may be able to return late in the year.
Team:
QB = Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Andy Dalton
RB = Todd Gurley, Dalvin Cook, Alvin Kamara, Kareem Hunt, James Robinson Lemical Perine
WR = Michael Thomas, Stefon Diggs, Mike Evans, JuJu Smith-Schuster, AJ Brown, CeeDee Lamb, N'Keal Harry, Sammy Watkins,
TE = OJ Howard, Mark Andrews, Ian Thomas, Eric Ebron
