Tanking

Postby Kurt G.O.A.T. » Sun Sep 13, 2020 1:45 pm

Looks like the football team and the jaguars didn't get the memo that they were tanking for some qb.

Will this stop people from declaring tanking in the future?

No NFL teams will play to lose. You play to win every game at this level regardless of wanting to tank. Surprised both teams won and it was very exciting. Both still have a great chance at being the worst team in the league.

I agree that the teams play to win.

The ownership and possibly the management are a different story. The Jags are definitely tanking. They traded or released most of their defense.

I love that the players still play their best and want to win. Good for them.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Teams play to win. Front offices set it up for them to lose. That's the difference. The front office is doing a "Major League" tank, and the players are playing like those players. Isn't that common knowledge? The players aren't going out to lose, but the front office is setting it up for a rebuild, and high end picks.

I think it's the Jets. They have no one on offense. They traded their best defensive player. Their coach has crazy eyes. It's gonna be a long season for JETS fans.

Good call on the Jets pulling out in front again as the league's worst team - they're all beat up, and no receiving threat besides Crowder till Mims gets back from his twelve injured hammies.

Darnold's in trouble, but Gase should never have been hired there in the first place like everyone but the Jets brass knows.

Agree though, shocking wins for JAX and WAS against playoff-caliber teams - so much for tanking.

Nope, sure won't. Obviously players and coaches are out there every day scrapping for their livelihood. Doesn't mean the front office isn't attempting to tank. That said, good for both of these teams...philly and indy just got a wake up call.

Yup it doesnt matter what the GM, front office and ownership hell even the coaches wanna do. This is the player job and its there career that is really on the line. There gonna go out and play there bleep off to try and get a paycheck.

Pat Mcaffee had a good point too that for a lotta these guys they wouldnt have near the same oppurtunity as on another team and they know it and it affects how they play.

Hope so, it's so rare JAX is relevant. They had that recent year or two when their D was just monstrous, but before that, all I honestly remember is the Mark Brunell era a couple decades ago.

I'd temper my expectations. The Colts just came out flat as could be. Their defense was a couple steps slow almost the entire game. Rivers looked old and made a couple massive mistakes while Minshew made pretty much none. That's why the NFL is fun though, any given Sunday.

And even then, that's too much to ask of a Rookie WR - to come in with zero other receivers to take pressure off you, off of injury, and in Gase's notoriously restrictive offense.

Hard to see a team worse than the Jets on the field today (though the Browns looked nearly as bad, with twice as much healthy talent)

I’m not sure Washington is trying to tank. I think they want to win just don’t have the talent to compete yet. To say they are tanking though I don’t think is correct.

The Jags I agree with, and management has shown they want to lose with their roster decisions.

The Jets I think are in the middle, except they need Darnold development. The GM has a long leash and knows his roster is flawed. He has to have his eyes longer term. Gase staying was confusing but I can only imagine remained due to the GM/coach relationship and to try to simplify for Darnold. Gase won’t be around next year though. Overall, this team has less talent than Washington IMO.
