I have been seeing a lot of "Buzz" on Tarik Cohen lately.
Is there anything to see here?

Nothing to see here, he's a dude that wants a lot more than football. He's stated on record he wants to play the league average of 3 years. Has more important goals in mind.

Taking out of context - he also want to make the most af his opportunity with CHI.
He wan't to prove ppl wrong about athletes HBCU.

In that article I see great attitude, realism and a healthy mind.

If I can get 3 years Flex+ PPR production from the waiver-wire/4th round. I would take that every day.

Thx for sharing, cause it actually made me like him more.

My one problem with the Sproles and Woodhead comparisons is that Sproles and Woodhead truly were heavy-usage workhorses in college, whereas while Cohen's 217 carries per year average certainly isn't nothing, it doesn't approach the monster 300+ carry seasons Sproles and Woodhead endured with aplomb... and which in my view proved all along they weren't too small to be 'big' in the NFL.

Also of note is the way Cohen's carry totals trended downward at the halfway point of '15 and '16. It could be nothing but a coincidence, but it suggests the idea Cohen was getting banged up and the coaching staff decided they needed to work him a bit less to preserve him. And again, when you look at Sproles and Woodhead in college, their coaches never had any fear they couldn't keep trucking it.

He's 5'6" and 175 lbs. He's a special teams play. Nothing to see here.

Wouldn't go that far but size does matter (snicker snicker); RBs under 5'10" that succeed at the NFL level are severe outliers.

He's electric in open space, I doubt he's ever more than an inconsistent flex play in PPR if you're desperate on a bye week, much like a Chris Thompson or Charles Sims type of fantasy production.

'Severe'? No. MJD, Rice, Gore, Freeman, Dunn, Sanders, Ingram, Sproles, Woodhead, Gio, Anderson, Martin... this is purely right off the top of my mind, and these are all recent or current players with the exception of Sanders and Dunn. I could probably quadruple this list with a little research.

Shorter than 5'8" is where it gets severe.

Which, incidentally, means your point still stands specifically in regard to Cohen. lol

I don't see any fantasy relevant upside playing behind Jordan Howard.

Kevin Cole did a great regression tree on RBs using all drafted backs 2000-2013. Success was determined as at least 1 season as top 12 back in first 3 years. By the numbers, under 70" drops a RB to about 10% chance of success. Sure success can happen later (but RB shortest average career length) and a top 12 performance may be a bit subjective or maybe just too high a number to be used for the standard of success (top 24 maybe, I don't know). However, given two running backs of sub 4.5 performance (the number one indicator) the one that's 5'10" has a 23% chance (so just over 1:5 will perform) but that short guy drops to 1/2 that chance. Only RBs that run over 4.5 40 have a worse statistical chance of success.

He does point out that there are exceptions (many of the same you listed) but those are the exceptions; just need to remember that when your drafting that short guy. I'm still taking a chance where I have room.

Very little value here. Howard is a stud. This kid would never be primary ball carrier even with an injury. Much better late round flyers like Elijah McGwire and Aaron Jones.

Might not be in the right organization/offense to max out his skill set. Reminds me most of Brian Westbrook albeit slightly smaller. I disagree with the one comment that even with a Howard injury he's not relevant.

If Jordan were to be sidelined I could see Tarik getting 8-10 carries as a trial. Depending on success or failure as to whether he gets more opportunity. Definitely better in a ppr scoring lg. Was hoping he'd go to Eagles but Pumphrey landed there. Learn from Sproles then takeover next season in that role.

Cohen could be an even better version of Theo Riddick imho'

T. Cohen's value?

Postby petebusey » Mon Sep 11, 2017 4:07 am

After the preseason and week 1 showing, what would we say Tarik's value is in 2018 draft picks now?
I'm too ashamed of any of my teams to post.

I'm biased against undersized backs. I just have a hard time investing in someone who will always be a part of a committee. He looked dynamic though! I think he stays a consistent part of their gameplans, but I've never owned Sproles in any format for comparison. Guys like that just have such inconsistent production, I think they provide more real-life value.

At any rate, I'd say mid to late second? I'm not buying though
