Aaron Jones

Postby balaberda » Mon Oct 02, 2017 2:39 pm

Ok so we know the deal:

Side 1: He has value sell
Side 2: He has a chance to carve out a role on an Aaron Rodgers team.

Where do we fall?

What is he worth in terms of blind bid money? Obvious waiver #1 claim?

He was drafted in all my leagues so I would think at least 25% of total FA budget but likely more towards 50%.
I would bid more but I was the guy drafting him in many cases

I drafted him but had to drop him a couple weeks ago due to lack of roster space. Figures

I also had him on my roster earlier in the year before dropping him as I've been playing RB roulette. I do hold the #1 waiver but I'm not sold on using it yet. Though, the chance of finding a breakout player off the waivers seems to dip significantly after week 4. I'm curious to see what others think here.

Ya I think the stats are out and you are better using it early. I have #2 and I am torn between putting in a claim for Jones or Mcquire. I think you have to use it on Jones no?

Interesting how people view Mcquire also.

Jones vs McGuire is interesting. But Ty more and more seems like he may be a viable longterm RB for GB while Powell hasn't proved to be a workhorse and Forte is old, making me think McGuire has a higher chance of becoming a future lead RB for the Jets than jones does for GB.
Not that either will or won't happen.

1) Re: McGuire vs. Jones -- I'd take McGuire every time. MUCH clearer path to playing time. GB loves Montgomery and wants to feed him the ball; only an injury will stop that. NYJ has shown no commitments to veterans this off-season, and Powell (and Forte) have struggled to stay healthy. I'll take McGuire.

2) As for Jones, he looked goooood. Like the kind of RB that the Packers had been missing. That being said, I don't see a clear path to being a workhorse RB. First of all, Montgomery shouldn't miss much (if any) time. That being said, I also wouldn't bet on him being healthy for each of the next 12 games. It is a pass-first offense, of course. Though McCarthy calls more running plays than people realize, he usually doesn't feed just one RB (even a healthy Lacy in his prime never consistently got 85%+ of the carries). And, around the goal line, it's almost always pass first -- or a Ripkowski handoff. Bottom line: If Montgomery were to be out a few weeks or so, then, yeah, I think that Jones will be big. But, with a healthy Montgomery, I don't see any way that he passes him for meaningful carries.

I'm thinking of finally dropping AD and putting a bid in for Jones. More of a roll of the dice for next year.

I'm a Jones believer. Fully expect him to ascend to the number 1 RB for GB. He's a better back than Monty and Jamall but needs time to learn pass protection.

Since before the season when Monty was determined to be the starter I have thought it would be a timeshare of some type. I think moving forward the splits will be as follows. GB has averaged 21, 23, and 27 rushing attempts per game over the last three years.

Montgomery 10-15 carries 3-6 catches per game
Jones 7-10 carries 1-2 catches per game
Williams 3-5 carries per game

I really liked Aaron Jones coming out of UTEP. He's a really good receiver out of the back field and def looked more explosive than Jamal Williams in the game against CHI. I drafted him in the 5th round of my rookie draft and glad I kept him until this point.

What's Jones worth right now? A 3rd? I figure might as well hold in the case of another injury to both Montgomery and Williams and capitalize then if you're looking to sell.

I'd rather own Jones than McGuire. Like Cohen (and a few other dynasty favorites this off season), he's undersized for a featured role and is a better fit as a complimentary piece. I drafted Jones late in the rookie draft with the expectation he had the best chance of ascending the RB depth chart in GB (as opposed to Williams or Mays). He's got a prototypical size and I like his skill set.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.
