For fantasy purposes if I'm a contender, I'd hold him for one more year then deal him. I'm on the bus for getting off a rb after their first contract/4 years. Same goes for the rest of that class (Mixon/Kamara, Cook).
16 team league
1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE)
26 upman rosters - full point ppr

QB: Watson, Flacco
RB: Bijan, Gibbs, McLaughlin
WR: Olave, Addison, Flowers, Rice, Downs, Mims, Douglas, Tillman
TE: Kittle, Chig, Woods
24 Picks: 1.08, 1.14, 2nd x2

Care to share why or just 2nd contracts for RBs? Just wondering obviously.

My thoughts exactly. You may miss out on the guy who makes it into the late 20s...but odds are very very few will. Better to get out early than have them on your bench until retirement. RB is just too demanding of a position for a second contract to be worth the money.

Man I'm in the very strange situation where I have Zeke and I'm contending. I hate to sell but I feel like that time is coming soon.

The history of them declining in value at that point. They are very few Ladanian Tomlinsons these days.

CMC is just turning 24, If I'm a contender I'm probably not selling him for the next 2 years at least.

Injuries aside, Gurley is just about to turn 26 and has ~500 total touches more than CMC to date. That's basically a little over one season of heavy usage for CMC. RBs burn bright and flame out quickly.

It's worth it to hold these guys if you are a contender. If you are a year or two out, that's when I'm not willing to risk it. And I'm a big CMC fan.

Alright.
It's about tickets/fan base as much as anything. Paying CMC doesn't mean they can't build a good team. The QB position was the reason they won 5 games. Without CMC it might have been 2.
Well, he has 2 years left on his rookie deal and a franchise tag. I'm sure the receiving value helps, but these deals will continue to not workout for teams. RB just isn't important in the grand scheme of things. Carolina will stink with or without him.

But I get the business aspect with jersey sales and stuff.
Seems to be the new thing. Pay the good RB's early so they can at least make something while productive and the teams don't have to deal with big contracts downstream.

Same scenario with Zeke but without a holdout.

I'd consider selling regardless of what my goals are, but you're right that holding him on a contender is logical. Gurley, Zeke, Johnson, Freeman and Bell all were at points where they had big value, and then fell off a cliff. Hell, even Kamara just had a down year.

CMC has been unstoppable the last few seasons, but RBs have short primes and you can get a boatload for him right now.

Oops, typo.

Though, his rushing yards per game have declined each year..

Saw an interesting stat about CMC's receiving, he's kinda a garbage time beneficiary RB instead of WR. Which I guess makes him game-flow proof if with a lead they still go by his rushing and short high percentage dump offs, and then when behind they're force passing the ball to him.

*McCaffrey has 15 games in his career with double-digit receiving targets. The team has won one of those 15 games. McCaffrey has five games with over 100 yards receiving. The team has won zero of those games.*
