Cooper Kupp - Value Up?

Postby moishetreats » Sat Mar 25, 2017 5:41 pm

I'm just starting to get some info about Cooper Kupp.

Apparent pros:
-Incredible production
-HUGE games in his annual game against Pac-12 teams

Apparent cons:
-Played at a small school
-Slow 40-yard dash time.

He's an old prospect as well. He's a big slot receiver. I think he's a poor mans Jordan Matthews. I think he'll have more NFL value than producing for fantasy teams.

I'm debating on guys like him on a team where I am pretty stacked at wr and have some mid second to early third picks. Going to take a couple shots on wrs at that point. He is kind of on my radar at that point, but will see after the NFL draft where is projects in rookie drafts.

Yep agree with above, he'll be a better and more reliable NFL player than fantasy IMO.
Ultimately I think the NFL draft will tell you a lot.
I recall during/after the senior bowl some were saying Kupp was going to sneak into round 1. I think the combine really shocked people (in a bad way) and made people go back and watch the tape and saw some things they didn't like as much.

If he doesn't go off the board until late round 3 or worse, I have a hard time drafting him except in deeper drafts honestly.
He's an awful athlete honestly- https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/cooper-kupp/

It obviously depends on the league and how the draft falls, but I feel like with multiple seconds and thirds, I will always find players who are better athletes or had better NFL draft position that I'd rather take a shot on.

I'm especially thinking about the TE position as I could see guys like Bucky Hodges, George Kittle, Adam Shaheen, heck even Jonnu Smith who all tested well at the combine in this ridiculous TE class that could be best players available in that range.
I also think guys like Ishmael Zamora, Carlos Henderson, KD Cannon, Jeremy McNichols etc that are all better shots in that range IMO and will be drafted higher by the NFL

On film from what I have seen, solid route runner, good hands, saw a lot of volume so there is a lot on him.

Athletically he doesn't have a lot of speed but did good in the more agility oriented drills and has good size.

What really is an unknown is how nfl teams value him and what situation he goes to.

I think he could be a productive player, not a top guy on his team likely but maybe a wr3 or wr4 pretty safely which in deeper leagues has good value. I think he is probably safer than most guys in the mid 2nd but lacks real upside

I think you are spot on there. I was thinking TE in that range, but I have a huuuuuge need there (team in Sig), as TE is my only real weak spot. So I think I might actually jump on Howard at 1.07. You never know though, but for sure going to take shots on a couple wrs like you stated and grab rbs and a TE with my earlier picks. I think Cannon is a good target there.

The Austin Collie comp is interesting though. I think of him more as Eric Decker coming into the league, but slower.

Yeah, but so many talk about how underrated Eric Decker really is as an athlete, I don't think he comes close ..

Daniel Jeremiah sure does love him .. He's sure he'll be a solid WR2 for some team..

Found this from 2010 rookies draft articles, I could see Kupp in the Decker rookie draft pick range. Late 2nd - 3rd pick range non-IDP.

Giving me the Devontae Booker vibe but at WR. The older prospect who put up good #s partially because he was 1-2 yrs more mature and developed than other college guys but might underwhelm at the pro level playing against more developed adults.

Why the hype on Cooper Kupp?

Postby WhatWouldDitkaDo » Thu Aug 17, 2017 6:52 pm

I just don't get it. Kupp is a slow slot receiver with decent hands on a LAR offense that wants run and play good defense. If they do pass, I'm not confident in Goff, and Watkins and the TEs are probably going to take most of the targets. Someone change my mind?

Good size. Major production in college. NFL ready. Can play inside and outside. QB friendly.

Jordy Nelson like, it's intriguing.
