Yep, outside of a few rare cases, you're almost always able to buy low on a high-pedigree TE before the breakout. The three first round TEs in that class: Howard, Engram, and Njoku, can be had for very little right now.

The only time I would consider it, is if I thought the talent in the class was shallow and there was a very favorable TE prospect there.
I can understand Njoku's devaluation but I don't believe you're getting Henry or Engram on the cheap these days.
According to Mizille's startup ADP Engram is a 5th rounder and Henry a 7th, whereas Njoku is falling to the 14th.

Seems high for non PPR. Maybe it's deeper rosters? Even still, looking at guys listed as TE27 or later on Mizelle, there are several options I'd be comfortable streaming if my starter went down. In non PPR, any TE outside the top 8 or so is TD or bust anyway. I'd much rather keep those spots for RB lotto tickets. Plus if over half the league has 3+ TEs, it's a buyer's market if someone needs one in season.
dvpkwys wrote: Sat Apr 11, 2020 12:02 pm Injuries, bye weeks, trade value? Just leave good TE's on the wire for others to pickup?
As you're finding out, there's not much trade value, because no one needs a TE. And in non PPR, the upside and floor are a lot lower too. There's little difference between TE12 and the guy you'd pick up and stream. Unless it's a very deep roster league, TEs on the bench are just expensive insurance policies with bad payouts. At least, that's my opinion. I only play in 2 10 team leagues, both PPR of some sort, and I've always been able to get a TE cheap when I needed one.
Fair - mine is a deep roster, even being a 10 team league.
I count 24 offensive players. Since it's SF that probably means 19-20 RB/WR/TE slots. That's pretty standards, not what I meant by a deep roster league. Personally I'd try to trade whichever non starters you can get decent value for in that type of league. Keeping one starter and one high upside backup would be the max roster spots I'd put towards the position.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

Harrison Bryant addition probably means Njoku is on the way out I would guess. But lots of TEs need a 2nd home to live up to their potential so we shall see.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

With the drafting of Bryant, Njoku is now the greatest buy-low TE candidate I can think of from the past 15 years.

O.J. Howard is a better buy low than Njoku.

You think? I would love to buy low on Howard as well, but it feels like his owners are holding on to him more tightly than Njoku's. Although I do think Howard is a better tight end in a vacuum.

How about that whole vaunted Big 3 TE class stinks?

At least Engram gets it done - well, when he's not broken like all the time.

But Howard and Njoku especially are making that TE class massively overrated so far.
35 Team Dyn PPR, 3 x Copy SF start 2TE Super Prem (TE 2 PPR, 8pt TD), 6 pt/non-TE TD, 1pt/20 yds pass (300 +3pt), 1pt/10 yds rush/rec (100 +3pt)

Start 12: 1QB 1SFLX 2RB 4WR 2TE 2FLX | 30 Active Roster, unlim Taxi, 3 IR/Out (+) | est. '21 | playoffs '21, '22

QB - J Allen, T Lawrence ...
RB - A Ekeler, S Barkley, J Cook, I Pacheco ...
WR - AJ Brown, C Ridley, G Pickens, C Sutton ...
TE - D Njoku, D Knox ...

And Kittle was in the same class, and he wasn't even the TE4. Shaheen, Jonnu, Everett were all going over him most the time.

EDIT: in seriousness the Pats invested serious capital at the position--still possible though

I'm thinking Redskins, Cowboys, Texans or Cardinals

I think the Bengals ought to kick the tires, check the asking price. Couldn’t hurt to give Burrow another possible weapon.

You think they'd move him in the division?

Not ideally but I think they should take whatever the best deal is.
Also, they went out and paid Hooper, and also drafted H. Bryant in the 4th round. That would tell me they don’t view Njoku as a good enough starter. Or he has some off field problems with the team I don’t know about. Either way, if that’s your profile on the guy, why not try to swindle a division rival and let them have the headache. Just spitballing though, honestly didn’t think about the division connection when posting, just the team I thought would be a good landing spot.

It's been a bad stretch for 1st round TEs. Last 20 years:

Hockenson
Fant
Hurst
Howard
Engram
Njoku
Ebron
Eifert
Gresham
Pettigrew
Keller
V. Davis
Olsen
Lewis
Miller
Winslow
Watson
Clark
Shockey
D. Graham
Stevens
Heap
Frank
Becht

I'm guessing Njoku is basically done being anyone's long-term answer at TE.

Texans have Jordan Thomas, Fells, Akins, and Kahale coming back from last year; they are good
