Post Combine Rookie Rankings

Postby Chwf3rd » Sun Mar 29, 2020 5:59 pm

RBs
1a D'Andre Swift, Georgia, 5'8/212, 60% SPARQ
I keep on going back and forth between my top 3 but Swift's 2018 film is enough for me to have him as my tentative #1. Alvin Kamara playing style, Swift is incredibly smooth and seems to slither off blocks. Great pass catcher, insane lateral cuts, very explosive, and enough power to get tough yards.

1b Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin, 5'10/226, 90% SPARQ
Awesome inside runner and that's where he'll succeed. Elite size/speed combo. He's patient letting his blocks develop with great inside vision and has the ability to explode with power once he finds a crease. Has the juice to break a long one at any time. Not as as shifty or creative as the other top guys.

1c Cam Akers, Florida St, 5'10/217, 54% SPARQ
Demonstrates every trait you look for in a RB at a high level - explosion, contact balance, lateral agility, pass catching. Really tough runner who plays with violence. Only real ? with me is his vision but it's hard to ascertain whether that's him or the produce of the crappy OL. He's a little riskier than Swift and Taylor but more upside.

4 JK Dobbins, Ohio St, 5'9/209
A lot smaller than I thought he'd be but when you see him he looks absolutely rocked up. Tough downhill runner with good vision and one cut and go running style. I heard someone else say this on a podcast and it fits - he's an A-/B+ at everything but lacks any elite trait. High floor player.

5 Clyde Edwards Helaire, LSU, 5'7/207, 68% SPARQ
Bowling ball shaped RB who's really tough and physical. Best traits are the most important ones you look for in a RB - contact balance, lateral agility, burst, pass catching. Size knocks him down a little.

6 Zach Moss, Utah, 5'9/223, 28% SPARQ
David Montgomery comp. Great power runner with maybe the best contact balance in the class. Pass catching ability with decent lateral agility and good vision. Lacks explosive qualities. Could struggle like DMont or be great like Kareem Hunt.

7 Antonio Gibson, Memphis, 6/228
Huge upside player if a team decides to use him as a main RB. Elite athlete and playmaker which showed at Memphis. Awesome returner and killed it on screens. Big play threat at all times. The SMU game really stands out. Flashes RB traits including lateral agility, explosion, and contact balance but had very few RB snaps at Memphis and when he did he didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. Developmental player but legit David Johnson upside.

8 Eno Benjamin, Arizona St, 5'9/207, 72% SPARQ
Under the radar great combine as he came in at 207lbs and still managed to perform. Incredibly quick and violent runner with explosion. Good receiving ability. Lacks ideal contact balance and vision.

9 Darrynton Evans, Appalachian St, 5'10/203, 84% SPARQ
Joe Williams w/o character issues. Incredibly explosive big play runner. Great lateral cuts and quick twitch. Lacks desired power/strength.

10 AJ Dillon, Boston College, 6/247, 97% SPARQ

Derrick Henry comp. Big upside if he goes to an offense that plays to his strengths. Huge RB with elite speed for size. Really good initial burst and tough for defenders to tackle. Isn't going to make anyone miss laterally or catch any passes.

11 Rico Dowdle, South Carolina, 5'11/213, 81% SPARQ
Love this player as a sleeper. Didn't have a ton of production but tested incredibly well and looked like a 3 down feature back on film. Tough runner with great contact balance, awesome burst, receiving ability, and power. Not going to make people miss in the open field.

12 Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Vanderbilt, 5'10/214, 35% SPARQ
Low upside high floor prospect. Doesn't have any defining trait, looks like a career #2 RB who could succeed if filling in for a starter.

13 Anthony McFarland, Maryland, 5'8/208, 18% SPARQ
Very good weigh in for him but looks tiny on the field. Really sudden with good burst and lateral agility. Don't think he projects as team's main RB.

14 JaMycal Hasty, Baylor, 5'8/205, 90% SPARQ
My top 3rd down satelite back/change of pace RB this year. Lightening quick and twitchy with awesome burst and big play ability. Weapon out of the backfield and LBs will struggle to stay with him in coverage.

15 LaMical Perine, Florida, 5'11/216, 51% SPARQ
Similar outlook as Ke'Shawn Vaughn - has the all around ability of a feature back but lacks the high end traits.

16 Mike Warren, Cincinatti, 5'9/226
Really, really fun player. Kind of a 90% version of Zach Moss - incredibly violent and tough runner with awesome contact balance and power. Lacks NFL explosive traits.

17 DeeJay Dallas, Miami, 5'10/217, 40% SPARQ
Another RB with decent all around traits but nothing that really stands out. Low upside. May be the best pass blocker in the class with special teams potential.

18 Joshua Kelly, UCLA, 5'11/212, 47% SPARQ
Copy and past DeeJay Dallas.

19 James Robinson, Illinois St, 5'9/219, 88% SPARQ
Patience and vision, tough and physical runner, lacks burst.

20 Javon Leake, Maryland, 6/215, 32% SPARQ
Really upright runner who plays like skinny DeMarco Murray. Slashing running style with good burst. Very linear player without creativity and wiggle.

21 Raymond Calais, Lousiana Lafayette, 5'8/188, 67% SPARQ
Tiny with muscular build, lacks lateral agility, little contact balance and power, doesn't have a plan and doesnt look like a natural runner.

22 LeVante Bellamy, Western Michigan, 5'9/192, 72% SPARQ
Tiny, quick feet, lacks contact balance, no power element, no creativiy. Good burst and has some wiggle.

WR
1 Jerry Jeudy, Alabama, 6'1/193, 22% SPARQ
Elite route running traits and YAC ability. Can line up in any spot in the offense and create easy separation at every level. Lightening quick off the line and knows how to release off of press. Finesse player with a slight build and won't win many contested catches. Struggles at times with physicality.

2 CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma, 6'1/198, 71% SPARQ
Elite YAC ability and playmaking. Incredibly quick with the ball in his hands. Creates separation out of breaks with quickness. Fantastic hands and ability to make difficult catches. Not a burner and struggles to separate at times. Inexperienced route runner.

3 Brandin Aiyuk, Arizona St, 5'11/205, 89% SPARQ
Incredibly explosive player with great YAC and return ability. Can win and separate at every level of the field - can separate with deep speed, physicality, or explosion out of breaks. Long arms to extend himself in traffic.

4 Jalen Reagor, TCU, 5'11/205, 93% SPARQ
Quick twitch player and immediately stands out on film. Great YAC and easy separation all over the field. Incredibly quick out of breaks and has the ability to high point in contested situations. Doesn't offer a large catch radius to QB.

5 Tee Higgins, Clemson, 6'4/216
Huge catch radius with ability to extend himself for difficult catches. Fantastic hands and jump ball extraordinaire. Sufficient speed to threaten deep and great ball tracking. Advanced sideline footwork. Doesn't consistently separate and may struggle with physicality.

6 Henry Ruggs, Alabama, 5'11/188, 99% SPARQ
Elite speed that should instantly change the way opposing defenses play. Instant acceleration and easy separation. Struggles with physicality and doesn't offer a lot more than speed. Flashes some contested catch ability but infrequent.

7 Justin Jefferson, LSU, 6'1/202, 82% SPARQ
Slot WR. Twitched up with quickness to separate on intermediate level and speed to win deep. Great YAC and used on reverses and screens. Ability to adjust for difficult balls.

8 Laviska Shenault, Colorado, 6'1/227
Twitched up WR with awesome size and explosion. Turns into a RB with ball in his hands. Great ball tracking and sufficient speed to run deep. Questions regarding combine performance and nuance.

9 KJ Hamler, Penn St, 5'9/178
Ridiculously quick and stands out immediately. Effortless separation all over field with speed and quickness. Body catcher and struggles extending for the ball.

10 Bryan Edwards, South Carolina, 6'3/212
Explosive and compact athlete with awesome YAC ability. Used on tons of screens and reverses. Not a burner but shows quickness to separate out of breaks. Some focus drops but flashes ability to make circus catches and catches over the middle in traffic.

11 Michael Pittman, USC, 6'4/223, 86% SPARQ
Big, physical WR. Good speed and explosion for size but won't be confused for Jerry Jeudy. Calling card are catches in traffic and contested catches down the field.

12 Denzel Mims, Baylor, 6'3/206, 95% SPARQ
Intriguing blend of size, athleticism, and awesome/sticky hands. Awesome high point ability with natural hands to catch anything in his radius. Very raw player who mostly won on back shoulders, jump balls, and slants. Needs to learn to sink his hips and explode out of his breaks. Didn't create much separation against Big 12 CBs despite his athletic traits.

13 Tyler Johnson, Minnesotta, 6'1/206
Big slot WR. Very reliable hands and extends his entire frame to create a large target. Circus catch ability. Lacks NFL juice and explosive qualities. Likely limited to big slot role due to athletic limitations

14 Donovan Peoples Jones, Michigan, 6'2/212, 99% SPARQ
Big and explosive athlete. Flashes ability to use his size to box out defenders and make physical catches. Speed to win down the field and has really good natural hands to make difficult catches. Played mostly in the slot and incredibly raw. Not asked to do a lot by Michigan and is bad at the top of his routes.

15 James Proche, SMU, 5'11/201
Potential high volume PPR slot WR. Really quick, great YAC with open field vision. Amazing hands, maybe best in class. Strength at the catch point to come down with the ball regardless of what's around him. Ability to make incredible circus catches. Lacks desired juice and thus must play in the slot.

16 Chase Claypool, Notre Dame, 6'4/238, 98% SPARQ
Massive and explosive athlete. Gets CBs on their heels quickly with explosion. Really good YAC ability. Lacks polish to his game and while he has the size to make contested, jump ball receptions he is not natural attacking the ball.

17 Van Jefferson, Florida, 6'1/200
Keenan Allen play style comp. Advanced route runner with great releases off the ball. Consistently gets open. Reliable target with backshoulder ability. Older prospect lacking athletic traits.

18 Devin Duvernay, Texas, 5'10/200, 68% SPARQ
Slot WR. Reliable hands catcher with great YAC ability. Can adjust to difficult throws. Lacks the quickness out of his breaks to consistently create separation.

19 Gabriel Davis, UCF, 6'2/216, 39% SPARQ
Thick WR that uses his physicality and size to create separation. Decent speed for his size but not fast. Physical after the catch to create YAC. Raw WR.

20 Collin Johnson, Texas, 6'6/222
Decent explosion off line, back shoulder ability, huge target with his size, really struggles to sink his hips and doesnt create a lot of separation

21 John Hightower, Boise St, 6'1/189, 74% SPARQ
The discount deep threat in this class. Incredibly explosive and fast deep threat with good ball tracking ability. Doesn't stem his routes very well and likely limited to field stretcher role.

22 KJ Hill, Ohio St, 6/192, 19% SPARQ
Slot WR. Good burst off the line, easy initial separation but lack of speed allows CBs to quickly catch up, good YAC, questionable hands, doesnt show ability to make difficult catches where he needs to extend.

23 Antonio Gandy Golden, Liberty, 6'4/222, 57% SPARQ
Small school prospect who struggled at the Senior Bowl. Long and lean, strong hands catcher. Destroyed press coverage vs lower competition. Contested catch/fade ability with huge frame and uses long arms to extend for difficult catches. Not a ton of separation, lacks deep speed or twitch, not a lot of YAC.

24 Quintez Cephus, Wisconsin, 6'1/202, 49% SPARQ
4.73 40 really hurts him. Really good back shoulder ability and uses body to shield CBs. Linear player that struggles sinking hips and exploding out of breaks. Not much separation and doesnt offer a lot after the catch.

25 Lynn Bowden, Kentucky, 5'11/204
Great vision and feel with ball in his hands. Flashes some ability to highpoint. Great wildcat runner but didn't look as dynamic as a WR. Sloppy routes, lacks crispness out of breaks, not a lot of separation vs man coverage.

26 Isaiah Hodgins, Oregon St, 6'4/210, 71% SPARQ
Contested catch extraordinnaire with fantastic hands. Painful lack of quickness and very little separation.

27 Isaiah Coulter, Rhode Island, 6'2/198, 27% SPARQ
Explosive off line, long and lean frame, good deep speed, flashes strong hands and ability to extend himself. Struggled to separate vs bad competition and tested poorly.

TE
1 Cole Kmet, Notre Dame, 6'6/262, 77% SPARQ
Kyle Rudolph comp. Strong hands and offers a huge target to QB. Reliable target that regularly separates from LBs and Ss and has great hands. Lacks great explosion and didn't make a lot of plays at Notre Dame. Mostly stretched the seam.

2 Adam Trautman, Dayton, 6'5/255, 67% SPARQ
High point ability, small school players couldn't bring him down in open field, very good blocker. Did very well at Senior Bowl. Not very quick out of his breaks struggled a little with physicality during route.

3 Devin Asiasi, UCLA, 6'3/257, 32% SPARQ
Delanie Walker type of player. Lacks the size and physicality of some of the other TEs and projects as more of finesse TE. Really fluid and smooth out of his breaks. Stems routes very well and creates easy separation. YAC ability and solid blocker. Lacks the big boy, physical catches that you'll see bigger TEs make.

4 Brycen Hopkins, Purdue, 6'4/245, 51% SPARQ
Fast and explosive, lines up all over, ability to make catches through contact, high point ability, very fluid at the top of his routes. Doesn't play with desired physicality and may be forced to a limited role.

5 Albert Okwuegbunam, Missouri, 6'5/258
Big, thick bodied TE. Very good straight line burst and difficult for CBs to tackle in open field. Great size/speed combo to threaten the seam. Lacks burst out of breaks and very linear player.

6 Harrison Bryant, Florida Atlantic, 6'5/243, 15% SPARQ
Could be a Cameron Brate type of player. Really good mover, lines up in the slot a ton, strong hands. Very little blocking experience and projects as a move TE with mediocre athleticism.

7 Hunter Bryant, Washington, 6'2/248, 32% SPARQ
Unathletic Evan Engram.

8 Josiah Deguara, Cincinatti, 6'2/242, 58% SPARQ
Lacks explosive qualities, tough blocker, H-Back type, not a lot of recieving upside, not a natural hands catcher.

9 Jared Pinkney, Vanderbilt, 6'4/257
4.97 40 is hard to recover from. Solid blocker, tough runner with ball, poor ball tracking, athletic limitations make it hard for him to separate, great hands to come down with ball in traffic, no wiggle. Maybe the best hands of the TEs.

10 Colby Parkinson, Stanford, 6'7/252, 18% SPARQ
Lined up outside as a WR a ton, big target with huge catch radius, strong hands, uses size to create some separation in routes. Lacks athletic juice, sluggish out of breaks and has issues separating, very few blocking reps limits him

11 Thaddeus Moss, LSU, 6'2/250
Really small TE without explosive traits and bad blocker. Really good contested catch ability.

12 Charlie Tauoepeau, Portland St, 6'2/240, 65% SPARQ
Rarely lined up on the line as traditional TE, good fluid mover, difficult for Div II player to tackle. No blocking experience and all of his production came via YAC.

Nice write-up. You put a lot of work into this. Thanks for posting.

Edit: I don't agree with knocking CLH for his height. I'd argue that short isn't a bad thing for RBs. They aren't going to be catching jump ball fades that often. Where would you rank him if he was 6'1"?

Is the 1a, 1b, 1c interchangeable?

Haha those were the 3 names that made me raise an eyebrow. Not that I agree or disagree on anything in particular. Just those 3 guys are very polarizing.

Ha, saw your post on Reddit. You getting flamed there for exactly what we're talking about. As soon as someone sticks their neck out with their own viewpoint, some others disagree without any context given. Cant people just appreciate rankings even if they dont agree player for player?

Yeah I'm totally fine with disagreement and like debating the players. The issue is when someone says "X, Y, and Z rank is absurd" and don't offer an explanation for why they like or don't like a player.
