FantasyFreak wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2020 5:05 pm Starting to think of a contingency plan for the 2021 draft pick order if there is no 2021 season. I think tiering the picks based on last years records is an idea. Bottom 3 teams in a tier, bottom 4-6, then 7-10, and finally 11-12 for example. Then randomize those tiers. So the draft picks are somewhat indicative of roster strength.
Here’s what we came up with:

Bottom 5 teams are in a lottery. Last place team gets 5 balls, 2nd from last gets 4, 3rd gets 3, 4th gets 2, 5th gets 1. Total of 15 balls. One ball is picked- that team has the 1.01 slot.

Then it’s repeated. 6th from last seed is added, and another 15 balls are added to the mix (minus the team that was already picked) with the same 5-4-3-2-1 format for the remaining teams based on their order of finish.

The process is repeated until each team is awarded a draft spot.
How do you do this remotely, I had thought of something like this, but are you showing on video, for legitimacy?
The plan (this wouldn’t happen until after the season is cancelled) would be to do it on Zoom.

Right. OK, sounds good. May do that in another league, if it comes to it.

My biggest concern is the potential effect on rookie WRs if the offseason programs are shortened.

They need the reps far more than a rookie RB.

Clemson has cancelled all summer sports activities, and according to Brett Kollmann, there is not the option to push the college season back a few months like the NFL, and he feels it's a very good possibility there will be no 2021 season in college football.

I can’t decide if it would be an advantage to part with or collect 2021 picks.

I would lean with selling 2021 picks. I mean the talent pool looks pretty decent as is... But being a full year out, it's tough to say what would happen this season. You would miss out on anyone having a breakout 2020 so I assume that's a ton of guys. The top talent is already there and hypothetically guys like Lawrence, Hurts, Chase (LSU WR), Bama WR, Etienne, Hubbard, Harris, etc. could only hurt themselves by going back. It's just the depth of the class that would be largely unknown. Not to mention a full year away from the sport I can't see being good for anyone. So when it comes to rookie drafts, I'm sure early 1st round picks may be known players, just with more risk than normal

Tough call. Some of the "late bloomers" won't get a shot if they don't have a college season. Many of those would likely end up staying another year. The big names will still get drafted and get their payday.

At the same time, I'd think there would be a big advantage for fantasy players who follow recruits and are more informed. Could be lots of talent that the main stream wouldn't necessarily have a lot of info on if there's no ncaa season.

My guess is that the first round will be roughly the same- guys like Chase, Etienne, Ross, Harris, Waddle, Hubbard, Lawrence and Fields in Superflex, etc. will all still come out. Those might be undervalued.

The later round picks probably aren't worth as much in the setting of a cancelled CFB season. Middle round guys seem less likely to come out.

Seems the supplemental draft will not be affected.

So this would also mean they expect to play this year?

I think it means it doesn't matter. They would have to declare next year regardless.

"Players who enter the supplemental draft normally do so if their eligibility for the upcoming season is in jeopardy due to academic issues, suspensions or other factors. Thamel added that the NFL is "making clear behind the scenes" that those who enter the 2020 supplemental draft must do so for similar reasons."

"If Thamel's report is accurate, that means a top prospect who was eligible to enter the 2020 NFL draft such as Clemson running back Travis Etienne will not be able to enter the supplemental draft unless he can prove some type of hardship not related to coronavirus."

I don't think "other factors" is considered no college season due to Corona.

Ahh that makes sense. I would think this means they are optimistic that they will play. I doubt it will be cancelled but who knows.

I like the weighted lottery system idea. We've considering running a Madden simulation for the entire season just in case. I mean...gotta get creative here

Goodell seems very consistent with his statements that the league will go on as scheduled, but be flexible for adjustments if necessary.

I am still very hopeful for the fall, even if it isn't a season like we've come to expect - no fans, etc. Often, its forced disruption that moves an industry forward. Just as more people will be doing business/shopping virtually that never would have considered it prior to this crisis, the NFL may adapt and become even more successful at certain aspects.
