The only thing I can really add to this conversation is that MFL said they are planning to have a plan for a potentially cancelled season by June: the time their early bird special would expire (source: https://twitter.com/MyFantasyLeague/sta ... 3535329280). I bet, like most other businesses, they're waiting until the last possible moment to commit to anything.. hoping to see some things change before deciding on what to do.

Other than that, I like some of the ideas floating around here about 2021 picks and the draft(s). I've reached out to the leagues that I commish to get the creative juices flowing.. I'm sure some of you imaginative people can come up with a few good ideas.

I dont know if this is strategic or not, but I’m trading for 2021 1sts.

Why? Because when they delay the collegiate season a whole year we are going to have to draft all the rookies from both 2021 and 2022.

So you don't think there would still be a 2021 draft regardless?

There will still be a draft, whether college and NFL play this year or not. Plus how would collecting '21 picks help you draft '22 players?

I tend to agree. Most of those with good draft profiles won't want to return to college and forgo earning their money. Even if there is no season, the NFL will still want the next crop of rookies.

Brings me back to my question. What does the NFL do if there is no 2020 season? I can't find it anywhere.

You can't find it, because it's not out there, all we really have is speculation. I really can't think of a fair and reasonable solution outside of some kind of lottery or randomization to determine the order. The NFL already uses coin flips to resolve ties in the draft order, so this would basically be the same thing just on a larger scale.

I mean if the game is completely shut down for both college and NFL why would they still draft? There are too many logistical problens with the draft order , free agency, and all sorts of other contract related deals that I’d be suprised if there was even a draft to hold.

My thought was that they would combine the 2021 and 2022 draft pool together and nifty fantasy owners would capitalize.

Even if there is an NFL draft then I’ll just draft those players anyways.

Even if you are right, how would acquiring 2021 picks be beneficial in your scenario? The draft wouldn't be until 2022.

That was my question when reading it. I was thinking 2022 picks would be the smart way if they delayed this year and didn't have a draft, but pretty sure they'd still have a draft. Not sure though

I'll ask the same question in reverse, why wouldn't they?

The NFL doesn't care if the NCAA had a season.
They still want to get the eligible players into the league as soon as possible to start generating money. Anything is possible, but I'd imagine there would still be a draft.

The MLB is still having a 2020 draft despite the 2020 ncaa spring season being suspended/cancelled. There is also a plan in place for 2021 MLB draft, which will allow them to reduce the number of rounds among other adjustments to signing bonuses.

There will be guys like Lawrence who are obvious top picks who will want to sign. Many of them have 0 incentive to go back and play free football for their school, despite getting an extra year of eligibility.

I suspect they would see a lawsuit from Lawrence and co. if they tried to bar the guys who would be eligible in 2021.

Would be a very interesting draft though without an actual season...

That would be a bad idea. You know how many players who would've got drafted otherwise, would lose money and go undrafted in a combined draft? Hell, some won't even make it to the NFL.

Yeah, agreed. Most players that went back to improve their grade would simply declare in 2021, I would think. Ever some high end sophomores might.

The Draft is also a massive TV and live event for the NFL, which they will not completely cancel as evidenced by their refusal to move it this year and all the changes they've made to the Combine for TV purposes. The only way there isn't an NFL Draft next year (whether there's a 2020 season or not) is if things get dramatically worse and we all have far bigger problems and concerns than anything sports related.
