https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/p ... rs-in-2017

He was the top deep ball passer in the game last year. I think Mahomes has good weapons this year, and should have some big games. I'd love to have him in best ball, but I would not feel confident using him as a starter week to week in year 1. I don't see him being nearly as efficient as Alex Smith was last year, Smith was really good last year. Mahomes long term has a ton of upside, but this year I see a regression in Smith's numbers for that passing game.
This may be the most meaningless/deceptive stat PFF produces. Smith has an average arm at best. There were numerous times when Hill was completely open deep and Smith would underthrow him forcing Hill to make a contested catch. There were many other times that Hill was behind a defense and Smith was smart enough not to throw the ball because he knew he could not make the throw and thus he is 'efficient' per PFF. Smith has never been very good on deep passes in his career, yet the first year Hill is a full time receiver, Smith suddenly becomes the most efficient deep passer in the league? It truly is not that difficult to figure out the reason....having Hill makes any QB better on deep passes. Smith is a smart QB with a very limited arm. There is a reason he was traded without hesitation. If anything, this stat shows the potential of Mahomes with Hill.....

Patrick Mahomes II

Postby JTLoh » Thu Aug 30, 2018 11:14 am

So I've been doing some Yahoo Pro leagues. ($20) as realistic mocks (and extra fun) before my big money leagues. (2 drafts Monday)
It's 6 for rec/rush TD, 4 pass. R.Wilson, Cam, pretty good options but go early.
I've been taking Patrick Mahomes II pretty much with my last pick of the draft in all of them.

DUDE IS BEING WAY UNDER VALUED RIGHT NOW.
Pass on the top guys and grab some PATRICK MAHOMES II late. Laugh at your re-draft league mates when he is top 5.

That is definitely some good value on him, but top 5 will be tough to hit. QB is deep, thus why it is a deservedly undervalued position for fantasy. But jumping over some of the top 5 will be tough. Now I am not saying I would be shocked to see him out score a Brees, Stafford, Ryan, Peterman type, but to think he gets in a tier with the Rodgers, Wilson, and Bradys of the world is wishful thinking.

idk about top 5 but I believe in his talent and I think he can be a star someday. Ill project if he stays healthy he lands somewhere between 9-15 by years end. For what its worth I took him in a dynasty start up draft the other night as my first QB selection when there were some solid veteran options still left on the board

Top 5? No way. If you want to punt the QB position until late,he's a good guy to take, but I can't see a first year starter with 1 game of NFL experience doing this. He's got a great arm, but he'll need time just like every other QB does.

Alex Smith was #4 last year.
Mahomes is better and will run a couple more in.
I know they lost their OC but they gonna run the same style as last year.
Plus add in Sammy Watkins.
If he doesn't miss any games, his floor is top 10. I'm still saying top 5.

Mahomes is going as the 16th QB off the board in MFL10s. Wouldn't make a strong argument to take him much higher than that.

I stopped paying attention at this point in your argument. Kid is basically a rookie. Don't build up the expectations to unrealistic proportions because you will be very disappointed this time next year.

A top 10 floor? Better than Alex Smith's #4 finish in his first year starting? Adding Sammy means something? I'm so confused.

Alex Smith was incredible last year let's not downplay what he did by calling a rookie who came out as a pretty raw prospect with a strong arm "better".

Yeah QB16-20 in redraft sounds about right.
Kid is athletic and has a big arm. However those athletic big armed QB's do have some issues transitioning to the NFL. The windows that were "always open" in college for those guys close alot faster in the NFL. He will throw quite a few INT's I think this season as he learns how to best attack defenses. Also could end up being sacked at a higher rate counting on his athleticism keeping plays alive when Smith would have just tossed it away and punted.
You have to love his upside in dynasty and I am higher on him than most but this year could be a learning process more than a massive breakout. Andy will protect him as much as he can but not always possible with gunslingers and Mahomes is cut from that mold
DLF HOF League 16 team PPR
QB: Brees, Bradford, Lock(3.07)

TE: Gronk, Swaim, Maxx Williams
