I...don't get the above reactions. Why the laughter/hate/doom and gloom? I suppose I get laughing at anyone who took him as a really high rookie pick, but aside from that I don't see him as a dead asset. The Rams offense (especially the running game) is nothing close to what it was last year. I won't put that on Henderson. It's mostly on the loss of some great OL presence, and on the quick hitting options not working as well for McVay/Goff this year. I expected this backfield to be a three headed mess with Gurley getting most of the work provided health, and Brown and Henderson picking up the leftovers. That's what's happened, and Henderson is clipping along at the same pace as Gurley and Brown. The catastrophe is not on Henderson's talent, but on the HUGE collapse of the Rams' total offensive output and the role they have left for him to play. Plus...wasn't the guy drafting Henderson usually doing it with somewhat of an "after Gurley" mindset? Unless he was taken 1.1-1.5 or so...then that guy was probably expecting a Gurley collapse.
I suppose I'll be a guy buying Henderson when the market opens back up if he's sitting at waiver wire prices right now.

When he was drafted the reaction was Gurley insurance. Gurley didn't miss time - this year.

He still has value but you have to realize he's behind one of the highest paid RBs in the league.

A 22 year old running back in this situation is worth holding/stashing.

Henderson is an explosive player. He showed glimpses of what is to come vs the 49ers. He did not grasp the new system as quickly as the coaches had hoped, but this happens with a lot of young players. With the realities of Gurley's health and performance, he should take a larger role next year, assuming he is more familiar with the system in year 2, and gains the trust of the coaches. He's a hold. Not every rookie has success year 1.

How many RBs that are relatively highly drafted and then are complete non-factors as healthy rookies, then go on to be fantasy relevant? I can't think of any. He's not going to be a weekly fantasy starter.

How many highly drafted running backs end up behind one of the highest paid backs in the league?

There's not exactly a precedent for this.

The highest paid back was on an obvious pitch count for most of the season and Henderson couldn't usurp Malcolm Brown. You're right there is no precedent for it; but, bjd's question has plenty of merit. It's not like Gurley was getting 20-30 touches all year.

If he was up to the job and performing better he would get the playing time. David Johnson is one of the highest paid RBs in the league, but Drake and Edmonds have been better and gotten the playing time. RBs overwhelming hit right out of the gate if they are ever going to hit.

To write off someone's entire career based on his rookie season isn't a very good argument, IMO. I mean, Kenyan Drake, one of the players you used as an example had 33 carries, and 9 receptions his rookie year, in 16 games.
