My strategy with committee backfields is to sell high on the current "starter" and buy low on the others. I'd sell Mostert if not contending for an early 2nd or better, and I'd buy Breida and Coleman for a late 2nd or less.

I don't think anyone is getting an early 2nd for Mostert

Mostert's value is almost entirely in the next 2 games, and the majority of leagues you aren’t allowed to trade anymore. He has no value compared to a draft pick as soon as the fantasy season is over.

If he plays well to end the season, and the training camp talk and reps are suggesting he is the 1 next year, I'll bet you anything people will be tripping over themselves to offer an early 2nd for him.

As soon as the offseason hits, rookie and draft fever kicks in and no one is trying to buy marginal veterans. If you're a believer in him though will be a good opportunity to potentially buy very low.

Exactly this. You might not be able to get an early 2nd for Mostert in every league, but I'm positive there will be owners buying for an early/mid 2nd in some leagues if he has another strong performance, which he could/should vs ATL this week.

Could he start next season? Yes. SF isn't going to spend high draft capital on an RB, especially with Shanahan's scheme, so he'll almost certainly have the chance to compete for the job.

Is he the long-term starter? Most likely not. SF has made Hyde, Coleman, Breida, and now Mostert their starting RB in the last 3 years. Jeff Wilson even flashed some too.

Can he help win your league this season? Yes, but the value for that is limited. I can't imagine anyone trading a 1st for him to win a couple of games unless they strongly feel that he's the clear difference between a title or not. A 2nd is more reasonable, but still a tough sell. Plus, Breida and Coleman are still there, and both are capable of big plays as well.

He "could" be the 49ers James White, or he "could" be .. Bolden, Burkhead, or any other Patriot type committee back .. only time can tell.

He's 27 (will be 28 at the start of next season) and on his 5th team. I just don't see anyone paying anything of value to get him, even if he looks good over the next few weeks. And if they do, they'll most likely regret it. I might pay a 3rd this year if trading is still allowed and needed RB help to compete, but have no interest in him past this year (really the next two weeks)...and even then, I wouldn't feel comfortable starting him because I have no idea who'll get the majority of touches on that team.

But he has really low mileage, just like David Johnson, so his age doesn't matter.

But David Johnson didn't breakout in his 5th year. I'm not pointing out Mostert's age because he'll be broken down next year, but more so because it's his 5th year in the league and 5th different team and he's finally playing well? When's the last time someone took that long to breakout and maintained it for a few seasons. Just don't see it happening with him either.

Even in his 2nd year of the league, he had 619 yards. And then had his one good year in 2014 and did nothing again after.
