Re: Jarvis Landry - Should You Care?

I can't speak for others, and I don't want to typecast myself as being "anti-Landry," but any information that I contrived was not just generated from this season (it was the exact opposite, in fact). Some may believe that it's too small of a sample size, and that's fine, but it's almost 4 years of data - and it's literally all we have. Maybe when it gets closer to f/a, I'll throw some comparison tables together. And I, for one, do watch the games. I don't just sit around crunching numbers all day haha. Just a normal guy who's a cop for a living, not an analytics major or mathematician, who loves watching sports. So I don't really think "common sense" is lacking on one side or the other. "Evidence" while factual in it's purest form, can also be completely subjective in how it's applied in this hobby of ours, and that's what makes conversations like these fun to me (and hopefully others, as well).

My big problem with a lot of these arguments is that they are basically based on unofficial statistics that use formulas. It is why I hate Harmons reception perception, he literally comes up with statistics based on what his opinions (ie. when someone is open or has beaten coverage).

They all have massive flaws (even the basic stats have flaws). You can interpret and manipulate stats however you want to make your argument. You can pick stats that support your argument and ignore those that don't.

Stats have some meaning - but these complex ones should all be taken with a grain of salt.

There is no statistic that provides the perfect formula to predict success.

So what's a fair value for Mr. Landry at this point, assuming full PPR?

I'm trying to acquire him, and I've offered Foreman and a late 2018 1st. That got turned down quick. Counter was Deshaun Watson and 1.01. Think actually 1.01 is about right... but not sure about that. lol

Depending how you feel about Barkley; 1.01 is probably a little bit high.
I would say in that early 1st range is fair though, or 2 mid-to-lates.

Landry value?

Postby Lesman » Mon Apr 09, 2018 8:34 pm

Looking for other opinions to better gauge Landry's value.

I put him on the block hoping for a late 1st or RB2 depth. All I'm getting are late 2nd offers. Is this as good as it gets with him in CLE, or would you just hang tight?

Name some backs you would expect in return for Landry.

Lol those are terrible offers. Even in the worst case scenerio Landry will return more value than any of those late second rounders. Also while his target share and touchdowns will regress from last year, it’s not like he is the Black Plague. You are better off holding him or putting him in a package deal to get a big name player.

Here is the most recent thread discussing Landry.

Also his ADP puts him in the mid 3rd it seems so I think any RB in the mid 3rd to 4th range should be possible targets to consider (or rookie picks in that range).
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

I have landry as a strong hold unless you like someone in the top 5 or so better than him. this is not a draft that I want to be trading "sure things" for draft picks.

it seems some are down on landry, I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. I think we see equal if not better numbers over the long haul.

The Landry hate is comical. Those offers aren't worth your time. He is a hold.

He's worth an early 1st to me. If you can't get close to that value, don't bother selling. Move someone like Cooper instead, who's value seems to have risen again.

I just acquired the 1.4 in a ppr league and am hoping to use it to buy Landry from an owner down on him

Looks like you play a standard league so I think his value would drop to a 1.6-1.8 first in that format, but still drastically more than the idiots are offering you for him

Ya, I'm not going to deal him for a 2nd... that's for sure.

Name some RBs that you would take straight up for Landry.

I feel like a lot of replies are thinking PPR...I mostly play PPR, but in non-PPR Landry was WR14 last year, and I can't imagine him finishing as highly in CLE given the presence of Gordon, Coleman, Njoku, and the RBs lowering his target percentage. I think he'd be worth an early 2nd to me in standard formats.

Landry has always had good yac but temper expectations being a Brown. I know a ton of people are gonna tout him cause he did do well in Miami and he is ranked highly but the regression is coming. The flood gates have opened for actual talent around him with Coleman, Gordon, Njoku, and even Hyde and Duke out of the backfield. I would consider selling him at his price now, but that is me. There's no way he puts up the same numbers as he did in Miami. I mean the guy had Kenny Stills going deep every time to compete with for targets. Don't let the stats from one team and system fool you in another. A great example would be Mike Wallace when he left the Steelers, Maclin when he left the Eagles, or Jordan Matthews going to Buffalo. All were talented but it's the system and rapport they're thrown into that will change their production. Love Landry, just don't expect him to be the guy he was in Miami.
