Is that really true though? I've heard both that he demands a huge salary and that he isn't asking for much.

I think he'd be a clear upgrade on a LOT of backups in this league. It's a sad blackball situation by the NFL if salary isn't the real reason for his exclusion.

According to Michael Silver - he is not demanding a certain salary or non-backup role.

Also the first question, below that tweet is asked by Sigmund Bloom if this was part of a settlement, and Silver answers no.

Kaep doesn't need anyone to set him up to fail - he is plenty capable of failing on his own.
In all seriousness though, this reeks of a PR move for a league that has been heavily criticized for quite some time.

This whole thing was a farce by the NFL to show they tried to help him, but he wasn't that good when he left and now 3 yrs later... I doubt he'd even be a useful backup at this point.

Ex-Browns coach Hue Jackson will lead the drills at Saturday's Colin Kaepernick workout.

Ex-Dolphins coach Joe Philbin will "also be in attendance." Was Jeff Fisher unavailable? The NFL has quickly made this event, which was sprung on Kaepernick with four days notice, beyond parody. It would seem like they are daring him not to show up. The Panthers have already leaked that they will not be in attendance. The bottom third of the NFL has featured shockingly poor quarterback play this season, but it is clear no one is going to take a flier on Kap three years after he was frozen out of the league. This is a publicity stunt on the league's behalf, and a poorly-executed one at that.
I almost choked laughing when I got to the Jeff Fisher comment.

I dropped Moncrief for him for kicks in this exact spot. Will probably drop him in a couple weeks but worth a speculative.

I think PFT hits the nail on the head here if this information is true.

I mean, it's not like anyone can do anything about this "collusion" anyways, he has no right to play in the NFL. They could come out and fully admit they blackballed him if they wanted to, but that wouldn't bring him back into the league or entitle him to compensation. Bad PR sure, but Kaepernick would still be SOL.

Just as likely that teams want to work him out, without getting their fan base riled up. Kap is still a polarizing person. By saying "we went to his workout" instead of "we invited him here for a workout" teams can look at him without their fan base becoming upset.

I think that is a gargantuan stretch.

The thing that sticks in my mind is that even Pete Carroll wouldn't take him.

Not sure how accurate the info is but the main reason that the Seahawks didn’t pursue Kaepernick seriously a few years ago was they were afraid that Kaepernick would be more popular in the locker room than Russell Wilson. Now that Marshawn Lynch and a few other vets are no longer there, it wouldn’t be an issue now.

I guess you don’t understand how the collective bargaining agreement works. They’ve already paid a settlement to Kaep and an admission would open them up to further compensation requirements.
