Guess a better example would be a guy who just has rumours etc. I suppose each case is situation by situation?

Do you simply cut them or wait for fair value?

Rumors don't count for me. Example: The Dez Bryant tape that was supposed to be 5x worse than Ray Rice, but nothing ever materialized.

If I own one of those players, I'll gladly sell for what I can get and move on. It's not fun for me to hold and wait for their value to increase. Like I said, I build teams that can win, but also of players that I can legitimately be fans of.

Here are some that I’ve heard:

1. I don’t trade. At all. I play the hand I’m dealt, and will not trade my players.

2. I don’t send counter offers. If you want me to accept it, send the best possible trade offer.

3. I don’t trade offense for IDP.

4. I don’t trade my hurt players. That’s selling low and that’s just stupid.

5. I don’t sell my draft picks, ever. I need them.

6. I won’t sell my picks that are more than 1 year out - it’s too far away to know where my team will be.

I guess ive used all these at various times throughout various leagues.

1. Not trading. Alot of owners and alot of leagues would be better off if owners would not trade, or atleast tread water more cautiously. Trader tom and the team or 2 he's swapping rosters with may be having a blast....but the rest of the league feels you goons are ruining the league for the other 9 owners. Thanks fellas!

I agree with this. I love leagues where trades are selective and calculated. It makes the league feel more like chess than checkers. I don't think a lot of trades need to be happening for a league to be "active."

I 2nd this. Although I get in the wheelin and dealin mood sometimes if my team is hot trash and just have fire sales because trading is fun! I think "active" to me, is responses. Not necessarily trades. A dead league to me is offering out multiple trades to different owners and getting no response from them. If someone says no to every trade I send, then at least they are actively looking at the league.

I think it is stupid when people say they wont sell someone for ANY price.

Everything has its price if you are being smart and objective. Sure, you may love a player and think he is integral, but there is always a bid out there outlandish enough to make you sell, or at least there should be if you are savvy

well, if you are prepared to pay something, you'll probably be willing to add a 10% if required.
but this does not take into account knee jerk/drunk trade offers!

I once was offered AJ Green and an early 3rd for Jordan Matthews straight up (about 3 years ago when AJG was still "young"). Wasn't a drunk deal either, the guy texted me about it ahead of time. He really wanted J-Matt.
No frickin way I was risking that deal for nickels and dimes!

Had a veto rule for a year or two in one of my leagues. One of the owners outright told me "I vote no to any trade that helps a team better than me."

I was foolish to think a group of twelve could be fair.
