I'll just hold him and hope before trading him for a 2nd

Brandin Cooks - What's Not To Love?

Re: Brandin Cooks: It's time to be concerned.
For what its worth its the 1st year of the league and teams are pretty evenly matched so current 1.01 could pretty easily turn in to 1.05. Its also a league with IDP and you can only keep 16 so those 2nds should have extra value.prinefan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 9:01 amShould have felt VERY dirty. Re: Brandin Cooks: It's time to be concerned.
I doubt Cooks is being moved in many trades right now. The concerns are real in that 1. the concussions are concerning given that this is his 4th or 5th concussion documented and 2nd of the season and that 2. the Rams offense in general is really struggling right now, so even if/when he returns healthy, he's probably only a boom or bust WR3 ROS.
At the same time, as a Cooks owner who luckily sold before this second concussion, I understand why no one wants to sell for a 2nd. He's been very good since entering the league as a reliable fantasy WR2 or better. I'm not looking to buy him anywhere given the concerns, but if I did own him, I would hold for now and hope that he puts together a couple of decent games later in the season, at which point I'd try to sell for any 1st.

This isn't a good example though, because that's a terrible deal even for just 1.01. It's just a terrible owner who doesn't know how to properly value pieces.

Agree - the other side literally got nothing for his early 1st. MVS?!? A couple of 2nds?!?? Zilcho to show for it.

I get it, it was a shitty trade, I raped the guy by accepting a trade he proposed instead of countering, whatever.
But my intend was to add to the conversation about Cooks value and if you dont believe me I dont much care.

Re: Brandin Cooks: It's time to be concerned.
It would be a tough sell to the acquiring team. He is (I believe) the 7th highest paid receiver in the league right now... it's a huge contract to eat for a buying team given his now very public health issues.

I don't think that it shows anything other than that the owner you were dealing with is terrible. Taco valuations have no bearing on the market.

Re: Brandin Cooks: It's time to be concerned.
In isolation I think that no extreme trade examples do not have an impact on the market. However no trade is completely isolated unless
(a) every owner in that league is only in that league
(b) no one in that league mentions the trade outside the league
Neither of which could be the case here.
Avalanches do not always start off as avalances.
"Avalanche initiation can start at a point with only a small amount of snow moving initially; this is typical of wet snow avalanches or avalanches in dry unconsolidated snow. However, if the snow has sintered into a stiff slab overlying a weak layer then fractures can propagate very rapidly, so that a large volume of snow, that may be thousands of cubic meters, can start moving almost simultaneously."
How does that translate?
Easy. If owners hear about Cooks being sold cheaply, they check to see if Cooks can be bought cheaply in their league. The owner owning Cooks may check to see what the internet thinks about Cooks - and if there is talk about Cooks being sold at X, and his value was Y, that owner may decide to change their value from Y to, if not X, closer to X. And there goes another Cooks share sold cheaply, which could beget another Cooks trade and another and another ....
So in isolation that deal may have little impact on its own, but it could be a symptom of a potential avalanche (aka dump off of Cooks) - much like we saw with Gurley over the off-season. That started quietly enough in February - but by August it seemed like a large minority (at least) of owners no longer had Gurley as an elite RB.

Jeez there has never been a more useless tangent than people arguing for pages about a laughable trade that is beyond useless as any kind of data point.

Caught two for four with a great catch but most importantly zero concussions. A success.
