Ty (the other) Johnson

Postby bdynomite » Tue Oct 22, 2019 9:11 am

Kerryon has been at best above mediocre this season and personally I've never been all that impressed with him anyway. With his injury, does anyone see Ty Johnson at least carving out more playing time for himself going forward? He's crazy fast, can catch, and should at get some opportunities now. I'm buying but what do you guys think? Anything to see here? Does Detroit bring in someone else like Drake or Ajayi? Just surprised I've been reading more about the guy on redraft sites than dyno.

I've had my eye on him for a while since the Player Profile guys talked him up pre-season. Will be interesting to see if they sign anyone by Thursday or so. If they don't, he's a great lotto ticket.

He did fall to the 6th round, but Detroit cut CJA partly due cause they liked what they saw in the rookie. At least that's what some people inferred from the move. In theory, they are a run first coaching staff too.

I'm pretty sure they sign someone, but that would be more for depth than actually getting a guy who'll be the starter. I expect Johnson to get a shot at being the main guy while KJ is out, but McKissic will be involved a decent amount as well. If he plays well, wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets more touches even when KJ is back, but that'll just be bad for everyone involved in terms of fantasy.

Ty Johnson is a waiver in my (admittedly somewhat shallow) league and I have the most FAAB.

I'm thinking of just claiming him to sell him for the best price I can get. Whether that's a 2nd or 3rd. But I don't know much about him, so idk if people view him as a long-term talent or not (I haven't really followed the Lions this year).

As vflgladiators just said above, the Lions will likely bring in another RB.

He is on my roster, so that means he is going to either get hurt after being given a shot to be the man, or it will be someone else that gets a chance.

KJ is on IR, so I think Ty is worth a flyer.

Had to cut him from my active roster a few weeks back of injuries and byes.

Love total dart throws like this guy, but damned rosters are too small. It makes me sad.

RB Paul Perkins has been activated to 53-man roster

Sounds like they are not signing anyone? I really want to pickup JD too, just for good measure.

I don't think they will be trading for Drake or any other RB for that matter. They are already at the bottom of a tough division and it would be dumb for them to trade an asset for an RB at this time with KJ still under contract for a couple years and not much chance of making a playoff run. I think Ty has a solid opportunity to show what he's got the rest of this season but I don't think he'll be more than an RBBC flier.

Yeah this is a good chance for Ty Johnson to show he can carve out a role long-term - but you never know, I suppose if he plays lights out he can make an argument for something more.

Nice chance to get some value out of a guy you potentially picked up for free. Sell now while his name is hot though I think. This will turn into more of a committe than people think and I have trouble believing Ty can return much value beyond a matchup flex play. I also don’t think that next years starting rb is on the roster currently in Detroit.

I'm not even a Kerryon fan (just blew most of my FAAB on Ty) but this seems like a bold statement. I'm guessing you think the Lions will draft a RB by round 3 or so? I disagree but I guess it could happen.

I think Ty has a great chance to impress here, and with the Lions simply promoting Paul Perkins off the practice squad (rather than signing/trading for a better RB), I think that's a sign of how much the Lions believe in him too (don't forget that while CJA isn't exactly a great RB, he did get cut in part because of Ty). I'm certainly biased but I think Ty is flying a little under the radar here on the potential opportunity in front of him.

Sidenote: I've noticed a lot of people saying this year that Kerryon hasn't looked that impressive, while I thought he looked pretty good from what I saw last year. Has he just looked a little slower this year or something?

Could just be the run blocking in general... but for whatever it's worth, Kerryon's PFF grade was 80.9 last year vs 64.5 this year, so that at least gives some credibility to some people's sentiments.
