Mohamed Sanu traded to Patriots

Postby Pullo Vision » Tue Oct 22, 2019 4:51 am

Per fantasypros-
Mohamed Sanu was traded from the Falcons to the Patriots in exchange for a second round pick.

Analysis: Sanu gives the Patriots much needed depth at wide receiver and should start in most three-wide receiver sets along with Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon. Sanu should be picked up in all leagues as he becomes a fantasy WR3 going forward.
I'm forecasting Sanu and Edelman throw at least one TD to each other this regular season.

Minor upgrade for Sanu. Guessing that means the Gordon injury is worse than they were letting on.

Also, props to the Falcons for getting a 2nd round pick for Sanu

A) Very surprised the Pats paid a 2nd for him. I would have expected them to give a 4th and get Sanu + a 3rd back

B) I think the fantasy implications that are more important here are the scenarios/rumors that are (now) very unlikely to play out, such as Diggs or AJ Green to the Patriots

Bolded above sounds like a screwjob trade offer about 80% of fantasy football players would send.

"Hey man, I'll give you my shiny 4th for your crappy 3rd and you can add Sanu for the privilege".
PSA - Haggling is NOT the same as negotiating.

Sanu is a great fit for them. Wouldn't be shocked if he returns some WR2 numbers on some nights, but he'll be a solid Flex option.

Like others, I'm surprised the Pats paid a 2nd rounder. Nice move by the likely-not-in-the-playoffs Falcons. And I do like the fit of Sanu with New England. I don't think he'll have a sudden surge in fantasy production though. I wouldn't be buying him. This does dampen this season's production for the rest of the Patriots pass catchers a little.

Also, there never was a chance that Diggs was getting traded from the Vikings.

I'm not sure that it hinders anyones production except for Meyers (who has looked good) and Gordon (assuming he gets back). Edelman should still be heavily targeted and having another WR who can go inside and outside in Sanu will force defenses to account for him. Likewise I think This takes some attention away from Dorsett who saw high targets with Gordon present.

The cost of the 2nd, likely means that we won't see Gordon for a few more games imo.

I think Sanu is a great add for the Pats. He is a tough WR and versatile. There probably was multiple 3rd offers for him, so after NE embarrassed Atlanta in the SB, the least they could do was give them a 2nd round pick for a good player.

This was my thought process as well.

Surprised New England gave up a 2nd for Sanu when they probably could've had E. Sanders for a 3rd...

I think AFC teams and many NFC teams just dont want to trade with the Patriots and make them any better. So the Pats either have to over pay or a team like Denver is just flat out going to say no even for an overpay. Its like in our leagues when we dont want to trade with the top team unless we get an amazing deal. As far as Sanu goes i dont think it effects him much. I actually think it effects the vets more so than the rookie guys like Meyers and Harry. Meyers was seeing minimal targets anyway so i doubt this changes that much. Edelman will still be the only weekly must start.

I’m more interested in figuring out which Falcon WR to add.

Gage or J Hardy.

Any Falcons know for sure which of these two plays the slot to replace Sanu?

Calvin Ridley may see more targets. Sanu had been playing equal to or more snaps than even Julio in the previous few weeks. Justin Gage is the next snap leader, so I think he'll see more snaps now from the bottom of the depth chart.
