Time to panic on Ertz?

Postby badbuddah » Mon Oct 21, 2019 12:31 pm

So we all watched Philly get destroyed by Dallas Sunday night, and even more concerning for anyone with shares in that Eagles offense was how horrible Wentz looked. Also adding to the misery, Goedert had 4 catches on 4 targets for 79 yards and a TD. Almost an even target share as Ertz, who had 5 targets with only 2 catches and 38 yards.

Obviously no one expected a repeat of 2018, but his numbers this year are pretty brutal for many who were counting on 12+ ppg from his position. Through 7 games only 35 catches for 404 yards and 1 TD. Is it time for contenders to panic, and try to ship him?

I haven't had any success trading him in my league as everyone smells the desperation and reads the short Yahoo! news stories that disparage him and scoff at my offers. I recently tried to offload him for Engram by trading him with a 1st and was told it would take "Ertz and two 1sts". Has he fallen that far? Is this the last season he even sniffs TE1 numbers?

The time to trade Ertz was so obviously during last season on in the off season. He's a steady TE, but he'll never come close to those numbers again. The reality is, Ertz isn't worth close to what he was last year, and won't be again. If you are going to trade him, you just have to accept that, or hold him if you still need a solid TE on your roster. With Goedert ascending, it could get even worse, though. He may be a better football player than a Fantasy Football player going forward.

I just moved him for Montgomery last week where I have Waller. I'm not a fan of Monty, but he seems less like a falling knife.
I have been trying to move him since January, but couldn't get the haul I was hoping for after last season. I think everyone was pretty much on the same page that 158 targets was not going to be his new norm.
I've been inquiring about him in another league where I need a TE, but that owner is still thinking Ertz should demand early 3rd round startup value.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

The problem is Philly has no WR. Ertz & Goedert are the only two viable pass catchers. Goedert had a better night b/c he faced easier coverage such as his TD against LVE.

Ertz currently has a 24.5% target share. For comparison, he had a 26.5% target share last season. Ertz is still being targeted and used like a stud. He leads the Eagles in receptions, yards, and targets by a significant amount. He also leads all TE in targets. So, the issue is not Ertz. If anything, he's a buy from impatient and flaky owners. He has a tremendous schedule down the stretch and into the fantasy playoffs:

Week 13 - @Miami
Week 14 - Giants
Week 15 - @Washington
Week 16 - Dallas

Ertz' production will come. He's not going to break the record for TE receptions again, but better days are ahead.

Ertz is still the leading receiver for Wentz, but I'm excited for Goedert getting more opportunities, he looked really good against Dallas

since when is 35-400 in 7 games bad for a TE in any way? He is back to what he was before 2018 which is 75-800 and a very solid TE1. Touchdowns are fluky.

me thinks Ertz's production will return when Wentz settles in and resumes decent QB1 play consistently. Lacking DJ & better WR play has really hurt him. Too easy for the defense to lock in on Ertz with diminished options elsewhere. Maybe Wentz overcomes it soon or maybe not...
