Darren Waller

Postby PurpleHAze20 » Sat Jul 04, 2015 1:02 pm

So I've drafted this guy everywhere in the 4th rd or later. Anyone else intrigued by his size, speed, and favorable landing spot in Baltimore? Everything I've heard about him has been he looks as good as advertised. Anybody else out there feel like I do?

I'm definitely targeting him and Smelter in the 5th, 6th, or 7th, but I think any other player you take in the fourth is just as risky, I just don't have a 4th rounder this year lol.
WR: OBJ, Dez, AJG, K. Allen, Crowder, K. White;
RB: Gurley, Montgomery, Lacy; QB: Wilson, Goff; TE: Eifert;
DL: Bosa, Danielle H., Ansah, Frank Clark;
LB: Telvin, Kwon, Collins, Jatavis, D. Lee; DEF: KC;
DB: Burnett, C-Dix, S. Davis; K:

Rookie Bench: C. Coleman, Doctson, N. Spence, Jaylon, Jack;
IR:

Start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 RB/WR/TE, 2 WR, 1 WR/TE, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF, 4 LB, 3 DL, 4 DB
12 teams, Non-PPR, tackle heavy w/ TFL.

He is on my WW but I am intrigued by him and his landing spot. I'll be trying to pick him up this week. Someone is going to have to step in and play WR in BAL.

I'm also targeting Waller and Smelter in all my leagues. Both of them play with good speed and athleticism for their size and really like their asking price. I agree that someone is going to step up in Baltimore, it doesn't necessarily have to be Perriman. It could be Campanero, Carter, Perriman or Waller.

Should he be owned in 12 teams 20 roster size league?

I guess it's all relative to who else is available, but my guess would be no. I like Waller as a stash and own him in a few leagues, but those are 12x28 leagues or larger. With only 18 roster spots (plus k/Dst) I'd have to think there are better players to roster than Waller.

I took a flyer on him. After my rookie draft he was sitting on the waiver wire. that is solely based on his name being dropped on these forums
The Vaders 10-team .5PPR QB/RB/WR/WR/TE/Superflex/Flex/Flex
QB - C.Wentz, A. Luck
RB - S. Michel, N. Chubb, R. Jones, D.Murray, S.Ware, B.Powell, Du.Johnson
WR - D.Hopkins, S.Watkins, A.Cooper, M.Lee, D. Parker
TE - Z.Ertz, J. Reed

QB - Mitchell Trubisky
RB - L.Fournette, Brian Hill
WR - M.Thomas, J.Doctson, Corey Davis, L.Treadwell, J.Crowder, M.Lee, Zay Jones
TE - Z.Ertz

Well, right now he's behind Smith and Perriman. Where's the opportunity?

Depth charts change and players move on. Just because a late round rookie that has never played a game isn't already a starter, it doesn't mean that he never will be.

I will say that all the breakout WR talk in BAL is starting to make my head spin. Every week it's a different WR than looks incredible and is ready to move into a more prominent role. We had Waller as soon as he was drafted, then it was Aiken taking first team reps, then Deandre Carter was far and away the best WR at OTAs, then we heard how explosive Jeremy Butler was looking.

That's a lot of guys. Guess what, I'm not done yet. After Butler we heard about Campanaro approaching full health and how excited the BAL front office was for him, then we started getting reports about how the team expects Marlon Brown to make a 3rd year leap and move into a more prominent role. Hell, we even got a couple optimistic reports on WAS castoff Aldrick Robinson.

Are we all getting the point now? Who can keep all of these WRs straight? It's ridiculous how many WRs are ready to breakout for BAL this year. And all of this for a 3rd WR spot in 2015 that's probably not going to be fantasy valuable. Is there some upside there with Waller and some of these other WRs? Sure there is. Let's keep in mind how much of a long shot these guys are and that all of these players are probably longer term stashes to be able to see any significant return on them.

I definitely see him as more of a stash than saying he will get playing time right away. But of all those guys you mentioned none of them have the measurables that compare to Mike Evans http://playerprofiler.com/nfl/darren-waller/. Of course I know the odds of him being close to Evans are slim to none but it's not often you can draft a guy with these type of measurables in the 4th rd or later in a rookie draft. http://playerprofiler.com/article/darren-waller/ here's another article I found fascinating. I definitely think he's worth a flyer and if he's sitting on waivers and you have the roster space.

Oh I get it, and I know all about his measurables. That's why I started grabbing in the 4th to begin with. A lot of my leagues did their rookies drafts the day after the NFL draft ended, so a lot of these late round players had never been brought up or discussed. I'll be honest, I had never even heard of the name Darren Waller before I started drafting him. I was in the 4th round of my first rookie draft of the year and was doing some quick searches on the names that were available. Once I read a couple articles/reports on Waller, he became my number 1 target in the mid/late 4th round. His measurables are pretty sick, and every report that I read says that he's a very smart kid who's a hard worker and very humble.

When I said that he wasn't worth a roster spot to another poster in this thread, it was because he was in a 12x20 league with K/DST. So he's only rostering 18 positional players. I like Waller as a stash, but in a league that shallow there should be better options for a roster spot than Darren Waller. You get into some deeper 12x26+ leagues, then I'd absolutely scoop him up wherever I could.
