Is Cam still a QB1 ?
Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
I won't be surprised if they did, they have a new owner who has no ties/loyalty to the current regime, he could want a fresh start. Cam would definitely get a job somewhere if he became available, former MVP QBs in their early 30s are pretty much never available.

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
I'm worried about Cam's mental state after seeing his post game outfit. What was that on his head? Does he think he's an old lady? He sure played like one, but man.

I said this earlier. His dead cap hit is only 2 million next year. He's a UFA in 2021. The could easily cut bait at the end of the year.Prison_Mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 3:54 pm Was just thinking about this, could the Panthers move on from Cam after this season?
And (hypothetically speaking), does he get another starting job?

They absolutely could which is why so think they grabbed Grier, who unfortunately for them looked quite bad although early in his career.Prison_Mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 3:54 pm Was just thinking about this, could the Panthers move on from Cam after this season?

I could see him being a backup but I'm not sure his ego could handle it. Or Brady will retire and BB will go after Cam and somehow revitalize him.

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
Theoretically, the Panthers could save $19M by cutting Cam in the offseason, but there's no chance they do that. Who would they play at QB? Will Grier?Prison_Mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 3:54 pm Was just thinking about this, could the Panthers move on from Cam after this season?

But long-term, they do have a decision to make. Cam is a free agent in 2021 and wear/tear from injuries has made his future cloudy.
Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
If they keep playing like this, they may be in a position to draft a new franchise QB too.

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
FYI, I'm just going off vague memory here but I remember reading somewhere that he's always done this. Something about, always leaving the huddle slow because that way he doesn't give away to the defense if he's tired or not (cause I'm sure he'd get very fatigued in his peak days of running and taking hits).Bot101 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 2:23 pm I actually think its the foot thats bothering him. Watching the game last night he was always slow getting out of the huddle and watching him walk around he moved slowly and seemed to be moving like he was trying to hide a limp. Would also explain his lack of rushing.
Not sure if that source was BS or not, though. Maybe Panthers fans would know. And regardless I pretty much agree with everything else you said.

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
In this draft? Tua is the only guy who might be, but the Panthers won't be worse than the Dolphins.
I guess the long-term, pipedream is the Panthers cut Cam in the offseason, start Will Grier, tank, and draft Trevor Lawrence.

I believe his dead cap hit is 2 mil in 2020. So yeah they could move on next season.Prison_Mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 3:54 pm Was just thinking about this, could the Panthers move on from Cam after this season?

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
Hot take alert.
Cam stinks it up and is released after the 2019 season.
Minshew plays well enough to keep Foles on the bench.
Jacksonville trades Foles to the Panthers for a 5th round pick.
Jags roll with The Stache and Foles is the bridge QB until Grier is ready.

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
Cam is done after this year IMO. I have seen nothing that shows me he is a QB that should be ranked as high as he his. He's burned me twice so far this year and he's going to sit on the bench until he gets consistent, which I don't see.

Re: Is Cam still a QB1 ?
If they keep losing, they could draft a QB next year. Between Too, Fromm, Herbert, Eason etc., there will be an opportunity to do it if they land a top 1-=15 pick.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 4:13 pmTheoretically, the Panthers could save $19M by cutting Cam in the offseason, but there's no chance they do that.
